Order Automatica: How to Sequence Cards and Prevent Fizzling

To reliably execute abilities on the 3x3 grid in Order Automatica, build your card queue around execution timing rather than raw card power. Place unit movement and spawn cards first, broad board-modifier cards second, and high-cost ritual cards last.

How Queue Execution Works

Order Automatica processes cards sequentially based on their placement order in your active queue. Each card checks the board state at the exact moment it resolves, not when you place it into the queue.

Because board state updates dynamically as actions resolve, prior cards can alter unit positioning or consume required units. If an execution check fails when a card resolves because the required geometric alignment is no longer present on the 3x3 grid, the card fizzles and wastes your move.

Three-Phase Queue Structure

Organize your turn into three strict execution phases to satisfy grid conditions before your main actions resolve:

1. Setup Phase: Position cards at the start of your queue that move, spawn, or rearrange units. This establishes the necessary grid alignments early.
2. Buffer Phase: Insert cards mid-queue that apply global modifiers or defensive buffs after units are in place but before damage triggers.
3. Execution Phase: Place high-cost ritual cards at the end of the queue. They will evaluate the grid only after all setup and buffer operations have completed.

Preventing Queue Bottlenecks

Filling the active queue completely locks your options and increases the risk of positioning failures if unit movement changes unexpectedly mid-turn.

• Limit queue length: Keep your active queue to three or four cards during early demo rounds. This leaves slots open to adapt to enemy actions or unexpected shifts.
• Balance utility and damage: High-damage rituals carry rigid grid requirements. If your board setup is unstable, prioritize low-cost utility cards over expensive finisher rituals. A lower-damage card that successfully triggers delivers more value than a powerful ritual that fails its alignment check.
