To survive and dominate as the Deinosuchus mod in Path of Titans, stay confined to deep river systems, conserve land stamina, and ambush terrestrial dinosaurs while they drink. Deinosuchus relies on superior aquatic health and burst damage to kill land carnivores at the water's edge, but its sluggish land mobility makes extended inland chases fatal.

Ambushing Prey at the Shoreline

Terrestrial dinosaurs must regularly approach water to drink, creating consistent ambush opportunities. To execute a successful bank attack:

  1. Take up a periscope idle position: Rest in deep water near high-traffic drinking banks with only your eyes and nostrils breaking the surface. This hides your massive body and prevents surface ripples that reveal your position.
  2. Approach at cruising speed: When a target approaches the bank, swim forward using normal movement. Do not sprint early, as sprinting generates loud splashing sounds that warn the prey.
  3. Wait for the drinking animation lock: Strike only after the target lowers its head to drink. Dinosaurs cannot immediately cancel this animation to run.
  4. Trigger sprint and heavy bite: Activate your sprint burst to close the final distance and immediately land a heavy bite. This delivers massive initial burst damage.
  5. Decide to pursue or reset: If the target stays at the water margin to fight, use standard bites to finish it. If the target flees more than two to three body lengths inland, immediately turn back to deep water.

Managing Aquatic vs. Terrestrial Stamina

Land movement severely penalizes Deinosuchus. Treat dry ground strictly as a short burst zone for securing immediate kills.

MetricWater PerformanceLand Performance
Movement SpeedHigh sprint acceleration; smooth cruising glideSlow walk; short sprint burst
Stamina DepletionDrains slowly over sustained swimsDrains completely within seconds of sprinting
Turning RadiusTight, fluid rudder turningWide, sluggish turn circle
Safety and ResetRapid dive into deep trenchesExtreme vulnerability to flank attacks and bleed

If a land predator attempts to bait you onto open ground, remain submerged. Pack hunters can easily circle behind your wide turning radius on land and drain your health before you can retreat.

Combat Matchups: Land Apexes and Rival Crocodilians

Combat strategy depends on whether you are fighting terrestrial giants or other aquatic carnivores:

  • Terrestrial apexes (Tyrannosaurus rex, Spinosaurus): Never trade hits on dry land. Land a bite at the shoreline, then backpedal into swimming depth. Terrestrial apexes lose traction, damage output, and turning agility once forced to swim, allowing you to dominate the engagement.
  • Base-game crocodilians (Sarcosuchus): Sarcosuchus is lighter and faster in the water, often attempting hit-and-run attacks to bait out your heavy bite. Hold your attack until the Sarcosuchus fully commits to an attack run, then trade directly. Your heavier mass and superior single-hit damage will win a direct trade.

Juvenile Survival and Growth Rules

Juvenile Deinosuchus are targets for adult carnivores, including cannibalistic adult crocodilians. Follow these growth safeguards until reaching adult size:

  • Feed strictly on AI fish: Hunting player-controlled prey at shorelines creates noise that alerts adult apexes. Hunt fish in lake beds for quiet, steady nourishment.
  • Rest in submerged reed beds: Break surface line of sight by crouching inside deep underwater vegetation whenever regenerating stamina.
  • Maintain vocal silence: Do not broadcast roars or friendly calls. Sound travels across open water and guides nearby predators to your exact location.
  • Select aquatic quests: Prioritize item delivery and collection quests that can be completed entirely underwater, avoiding inland clearings.
