To survive around Homecave entrances in Path of Titans, you must avoid lingering in the anti-camping boundary, let your active combat timer clear before interacting with the entrance, and avoid chasing targets into the perimeter. Stepping inside the exclusion zone around a Homecave starts an invisible presence check. If you remain there without entering the cavern or leaving the area, the game applies a severe anti-camp debuff to your status bar that drastically lowers your combat effectiveness.

Homecave Debuff Penalties

The anti-camping debuff prevents territorial predators from camping cave entrances or ambushing dinosaurs as they exit. When active, it cripples your offensive and defensive stats regardless of your growth stage.

Because incoming damage is heavily magnified and outgoing damage is suppressed, even apex predators such as sub-adult or adult Tyrannosaurus rex become vulnerable to counterattacks while debuffed.

Delivering Trophies Safely

Trophies taken from defeated adult dinosaurs provide substantial growth and marks when delivered inside a Homecave. However, carrying an item restricts your actions and draws nearby predators to cave approaches.

Follow these rules when transporting trophies:

  1. Scout before crossing the perimeter: Check surrounding foliage, rocks, and ridges for waiting carnivores before entering the exclusion zone.
  2. Drop the trophy if attacked: Holding an object prevents you from using primary bite and head attacks. Drop the item immediately to unlock your full combat kit.
  3. Have juveniles retrieve at the threshold: Direct a growing packmate to stay near the entrance veil. Drop the trophy close to the cavern so the juvenile can pick it up and interact with the entrance portal before outside threats engage them.

Fighting and Countering Campers at the Entrance

Chasing wounded targets directly to a Homecave entrance frequently results in death for the pursuer. If a fleeing dinosaur reaches the threshold and the attacker follows, the chasing dinosaur risks triggering the anti-camp debuff.

Attacking or taking damage activates the crossed-swords combat timer, which blocks you from interacting with the Homecave stone to escape. An aggressor who acquires both the debuff and an active combat timer cannot retreat inside and cannot effectively trade hits.

If a hostile carnivore corners you near an entrance:

  • Hold the perimeter line: Position yourself near the threshold without idling long enough to receive the debuff yourself.
  • Bait pursuit into the boundary: Allow an aggressive attacker to push past the entrance perimeter.
  • Punish debuffed targets: When the enemy receives the debuff icon, their movement slows and their defenses drop. Retaliate immediately with standard attacks to exploit their amplified damage vulnerability.

Resetting Combat to Enter the Homecave

Interacting with the Homecave portal requires an inactive combat state. Dealing damage, taking damage, and using threatening calls all reset the combat timer.

To enter successfully:

  1. Disengage from the opponent once they back away or fall under the debuff effect.
  2. Break line of sight using the terrain around the entrance rocks.
  3. Stop throwing retaliatory strikes or vocal calls.
  4. Wait for the crossed-swords combat icon to clear from the user interface.
  5. Interact with the entrance stone immediately once the icon disappears to enter the interior safe zone.
