To survive and hunt as a spider mod creature in the desert biomes of Path of Titans, you must rely on terrain concealment, short mobility bursts, and hit-and-run venom strikes instead of direct brawling. Your low profile allows you to remain unseen where tall dinosaurs cannot hide, but your small health pool and vulnerability to trample damage require careful target selection and disciplined stamina management.

Using Desert Terrain for Concealment

Your low ground clearance is your strongest defensive tool across open sand. Tall carnivores and herbivores stand out against the horizon, but a crouching spider can disappear into shallow terrain dips, dead shrubs, or behind dune crests.

  • Scan from Cover: Remain motionless in dune depressions or behind rocky outcroppings. Use third-person free-look camera movement to scout open corridors without shifting your position or making footstep noise.
  • Avoid Flat Ground: Moving over wide salt flats or open sand crests leaves you visible to fast sprinters like raptors and ornithomimids.
  • Travel Along Obstacles: Route your travels through dried riverbeds, along cliff bases, and through boulder clusters. Vertical terrain breaks line of sight and prevents larger dinosaurs from taking a direct running angle at you.

Combat Loop and Venom Management

The spider relies on short sprint bursts and leaps rather than extended chases. Protracted running quickly empties your stamina bar, leaving you unable to evade wide bite arcs or tail sweeps.

Initiate combat strictly at close range from an ambush spot. Land an initial strike to inflict venom, which drains the target's stamina and limits their ability to run or retaliate. Once venom is applied, back out immediately to avoid counterattacks. Re-engage only after the prey burns its remaining energy trying to turn or chase.

Finding Food and Water Safely

Desert watering holes concentrate apex predators and aggressive packs, making open water access hazardous for small ambushers.

  • Drink in Bursts: Never drink your hydration bar to full in one continuous animation. Take small sips, cancel the interaction, and rotate your camera to check all approach angles before drinking again.
  • Approach Through Dense Cover: Only approach oases through steep rocks or brush lines. Listen for distant vocal calls and watch for footprints or water ripples before revealing yourself.
  • Scavenge Perimeters: Avoid feeding on large kills located directly on open shorelines. Focus on small critter burrows or leftover bones along the outer edges of the territory. If large carnivores fight nearby, wait until the winner leaves before scavenging the carcass.

Evading Apex Dinosaurs and Trample Damage

Large carnivores such as Spinosaurus or Tyrannotitan, as well as heavy sauropods, deal severe trample and crush damage simply by running over smaller character models.

If an apex spots you, do not run in a straight line across flat sand. Apex carnivores often possess higher sustained sprint speeds across open ground and can easily run down a spider. Instead, break line of sight by darting toward steep cliffs, narrow rock crevices, or jagged inclines. Navigating through tight geometry exploits the wide turn radiuses and collision boxes of large dinosaurs, giving you the time needed to crouch and vanish into cover.

Target Selection

Solo spider hunting requires strict discipline. Prioritize isolated juveniles, low-weight scouts, and injured mid-tier dinosaurs resting to recover health or stamina:

  1. Follow your target from broken terrain until they commit to an action, such as resting, quest item collection, or foraging.
  2. Spring from their rear blind spot using a short stamina burst to land your opening venom bite.
  3. If the target turns out to be part of a coordinated pack that rushes in to defend them, disengage immediately and use broken rock formations to escape.
