In the Petit Planet final beta test, decorating requires balancing grid-aligned furniture placement with open movement paths so your character and visiting NPCs can interact with room features without getting stuck.
Placing Items on the Grid
When you enter decoration mode, a grid appears on the floor to guide alignment. Objects snap directly to this grid, ensuring tables, chairs, and storage units remain parallel to walls and adjacent structures.
Follow this sequence to organize room layouts:
- Set anchor pieces first: Position large functional assets, such as beds or main storage units, along wall boundaries or room centers to establish the primary layout.
- Add secondary furniture: Fill out the room with secondary seating, side tables, or crafting stations.
- Fill decorative gaps: Accent floor spaces with smaller assets like rugs or standing lamps once main pieces are locked in place.
Grid snapping allows you to shift entire item groups quickly when unlocking higher-tier furniture, preventing overlapping textures and misaligned placements.
Rotating and Layering Decor
Strict grid alignment can leave rooms looking rigid. Use rotation and object combinations to build more natural interiors:
- Angle furniture: Rotate chairs or plants at 45-degree or 90-degree angles to create corner seating or angled arrangements.
- Build vignettes: Combine related smaller items on top of surfaces, such as placing a lamp or book on a side table next to a chair.
- Use wall space: Mount wall hangings and coordinate their color palette with floor rugs to save ground space for functional items.
Using wall mounts and compact surface decorations preserves floor space for workstations while keeping decor grouped intentionally.
Avoiding Clearance and Placement Errors
If an item turns red during placement, the game indicates a collision error or an invalid placement zone.
| Placement Factor | Requirement / Effect | Action Needed |
|---|---|---|
| Red Highlight | Indicates overlapping hitboxes or restricted zones | Move the item until the highlight turns normal before confirming. |
| Interactive Stations | Require open space for interaction animations | Leave at least one grid tile open around crafting benches and workstations. |
| Doorways & Paths | Blocked pathways prevent avatar or NPC movement | Maintain clear lines of sight between entrances, storage, and crafting stations. |
Test character movement through decorated rooms before locking in a permanent design. If your avatar or an NPC catches on a furniture edge, shift surrounding objects by one grid square to restore uninterrupted traversal.

Nice guide. I am checking the other Petit Planet articles next.
Can you add more details about strategy in a future update?
This helped me understand strategy much better.
This guide answered the exact question I had.
