To evolve Charmander into Charmeleon in Pokémon Quest, raise Charmander to Level 16 and ensure the Everstone setting is turned off on its status screen. The evolution triggers automatically upon completing the stage or training session that pushes Charmander to Level 16. Pokémon Quest does not require elemental stones, trade links, or special evolution items.

How to Level Charmander to Evolution

Charmander reaches Level 16 through standard gameplay progression. Before grinding, open Charmander's status sheet and verify the Everstone icon in the upper-right corner is toggled to "Off." If the Everstone is active, Charmander will not evolve upon leveling up.

Raise Charmander to Level 16 using two primary methods:

  • Expedition clears: Run the highest expedition stage your squad can reliably complete on either manual or auto mode. Backforth Brook and Parched Peak stages yield consistent experience gains and drop Power Stones to bolster your team.
  • Base Camp Level-Up Training: Sacrifice duplicate or low-stat Pokémon attracted to your camp cooking pot. Using Fire-type Pokémon or higher-level training partners grants bonus experience points, substantially reducing the number of expedition runs needed.

After reaching Charmeleon at Level 16, its final evolution into Charizard occurs at Level 36.

Stat Growth and Combat Adjustments

Evolving into Charmeleon raises raw Attack and HP base stats, which increases overall team strength and scales the effectiveness of equipped Power Stones. Charmander often suffers from low durability during early boss encounters, but Charmeleon gains the survivability required for close-range combat.

Because Charmeleon steps into closer range during attack animations, it must absorb hits that Charmander avoided from a distance.

Evolving expands Charmeleon’s ability pool through Move Learning training at base camp. Early abilities like Scratch or Ember lack multi-hit coverage and crowd control against dense waves.

Target these offensive Fire-type moves:

  • Flame Charge: Dashes forward into targets, temporarily raising movement speed and attack power. This allows Charmeleon to close gaps quickly or reposition away from telegraphed boss attacks.
  • Fire Spin: Creates a persistent flame vortex that hits enemies repeatedly and traps weaker Pokémon, making it effective for clearing groups.
  • Fire Punch: A direct, single-target melee blow that deals burst damage with a chance to burn the target.

Pair these abilities with compatible Move Stones:

  • Wait Less Stone: Reduces ability cooldowns to maintain steady offensive output.
  • Broadburst Stone: Increases the attack area of Fire Spin, pulling in additional enemies per cast.

Power Stone Configuration and Team Synergy

Charmeleon performs best when Power Stone slots are balanced with roughly two Attack slots (Mighty Stones) for every one HP slot (Sturdy Stone). Leaving Charmeleon entirely without HP stones leaves it vulnerable to sudden knockouts from area-of-effect boss attacks.

When selecting Power Stones, prioritize secondary substats:

  • Hit Healing (%): Restores health with each tick of multi-hit attacks like Fire Spin.
  • Critical Hit Rate and Critical Hit Damage: Multiplies Charmeleon's high base Attack.
  • Resist Status Conditions (%): Prevents incapacitating effects like burn, sleep, or paralysis during boss fights.

To keep Charmeleon alive on expeditions, run it alongside a dedicated frontline tank or buffer. Teammates using moves like Bulk Up (such as Machop) or Harden (such as Onix) equipped with Share Stones provide squad-wide defense and attack boosts. When a boss prepares a heavy charged strike, tap the scatter button to pull Charmeleon back to a safe perimeter, then re-engage once the attack finishes.
