To beat the Stage 8 (Hush Mountain) boss duo of Nidoking and Nidoqueen in Pokémon Quest, exploit the stage's Ground-type stat bonus, equip Power Stones with Hit Healing and status resistance, and burst down Nidoqueen before dealing with Nidoking.
Recommended Team Composition and Ground-Type Picks
Hush Mountain provides a native stat boost to Ground-type Pokémon, raising their base HP and Attack. Fielding Ground types significantly lowers the combat power needed to survive the stage's high physical and poison damage.
A reliable squad uses one defensive buffer and two damage dealers (preferably ranged):
- Buffer Tank: A durable frontliner with a defensive buff like Bulk Up, Harden, or Iron Defense linked to at least two Sharing Stones to spread defensive buffs to the entire party.
- Damage Dealers: Attackers capable of dealing heavy burst damage while staying out of Nidoking's direct melee cleave.
| Pokémon | Role | Recommended Moves | Key Advantage |
|---|---|---|---|
| Onix | Tank or Bruiser | Rock Throw, Dig, Harden | High natural bulk; gains stage Ground bonus; can run team-wide Harden. |
| Diglett / Dugtrio | Damage Dealer | Dig | Dig provides invulnerability frames during animation to dodge boss AoE. |
| Geodude / Graveler / Golem | Hybrid Tank / DPS | Dig, Earthquake | Strong baseline durability backed by the Ground-type stat boost. |
| Machop / Machamp | Dedicated Buffer | Bulk Up | Non-Ground alternative that provides shared offensive and defensive buffs. |
Power Stone Sub-Stats to Prioritize
Wave 3 mobs and the dual bosses both deal heavy chip and status damage. Your stone loadout must provide passive sustain:
- Hit Healing: Aim for 2% to 5% minimum (up to 10%) on damage dealers. Because multi-hit abilities trigger recovery on each impact, this stat allows your attackers to heal through residual poison ticks before entering the boss room.
- Resist Status Conditions: Stacking this sub-stat reduces the duration and application rate of poison from both Nidorino and Nidoqueen.
- Sturdy Stones (HP): Fragile attackers require at least three to four HP stone slots to survive incidental area-of-effect tremors.
- Movement Speed: Extra movement speed helps ranged attackers automatically maintain distance from Nidoking's charge path.
Clearing the Wave 3 Nidorino Poison Wave
The main failure point before the boss chamber occurs in Wave 3. Packs of Nidorino coat your squad in percentage-based poison damage. Entering the boss arena with depleted health pools almost guarantees an immediate wipe.
- Let your frontline tank draw the initial poison spit while ranged attackers clear the wave from outside the poison cloud.
- If your squad is poisoned, do not rush the final mob; allow multi-hit moves to trigger Hit Healing to top off health bars before transitioning to the boss chamber.
Boss Strategy: Nidoking and Nidoqueen
The boss encounter pits you against both evolved forms simultaneously. Splitting damage across both bosses prolongs the fight and risks overlapping special attacks.
+---------------+-----------------------------+---------------------------------------+
| Boss Target | Attack Profile | Kill Priority |
+---------------+-----------------------------+---------------------------------------+
| Nidoqueen | Sweeping poison, AoE tremors| Priority 1: Eliminate first to remove |
| | | wide area denial and backline chip. |
+---------------+-----------------------------+---------------------------------------+
| Nidoking | Heavy rushes, horn knockback| Priority 2: Off-tank and kite until |
| | | Nidoqueen is defeated. |
+---------------+-----------------------------+---------------------------------------+
1. Focus Down Nidoqueen First
Nidoqueen poses the greatest threat to your backline due to her wide tremors and persistent poison zones. Direct your team's damage into Nidoqueen immediately while your buffer keeps Nidoking's attention. Once Nidoqueen falls, Nidoking's predictable, linear charges become manageable.
2. Time the Scatter Whistle for Telegraphs
Do not spam the scatter button, as its internal cooldown increases with successive uses. Save manual retreats exclusively for telegraphed special attacks:
- Nidoking: Pauses and rears back onto his hind legs before executing a forward charge or ground smash.
- Nidoqueen: Winds up an extended ground-slam animation that triggers arena tremors.
Tap the scatter whistle as soon as either boss begins a windup animation to pull your team away, then let them re-engage as soon as the attack finishes to capitalize on the boss's recovery delay.

Nice guide. I am checking the other Pokémon Quest articles next.
This helped me understand strategy much better.
The explanation is clear, especially for beginners.
I tried this today and it worked better than my old setup.
