To run the Mega Sharpedo EX and Gyarados deck in Pokémon TCG Pocket, use Mega Sharpedo EX to apply early active pressure while filling your bench with Water-type Pokémon to fuel Gyarados's scaling finisher. Gyarados gains 40 additional damage for each Water-type ally in play, turning a fully populated board into high-output burst damage against high-HP targets.
Card List and Deck Composition
Keep the list concentrated on Water-type Pokémon to ensure every benched card contributes to Gyarados's damage bonus.
| Card Name | Role in Deck | Quantity |
|---|---|---|
| Magikarp | Basic evolution target for Gyarados | 2 |
| Gyarados | Primary late-game burst attacker | 2 |
| Carvanha | Basic starter and evolution target | 2 |
| Sharpedo / Mega Sharpedo EX | Early-to-mid-game frontline attacker | 2 |
| Poké Ball | Searches basic Pokémon to establish bench count | 2 |
| Professor's Research | Draws cards to find evolution stages | 2 |
| Misty / Water Energy Engine | Accelerates Water Energy attachments | 2 |
| Sabrina / Boss's Orders | Forces opponent switches and traps targets | 1–2 |
Turn-by-Turn Strategy
- Establish basic Pokémon immediately: Open by playing Carvanha and Magikarp using Poké Ball. Keep Carvanha in the Active Spot to take early contact, leaving Magikarp protected on the bench.
- Accelerate Energy: Use Misty early on your benched attackers. If coin flips grant multiple Energy attachments, prioritize powering up the attacker closest to evolving.
- Attack with Mega Sharpedo EX: Evolve Carvanha into Sharpedo and Mega Sharpedo EX. Attack into opposing setup cards to force the opponent to commit resources or switch out damaged defenders.
- Bench full Water lines: Keep two to three Water Pokémon on the bench while Mega Sharpedo EX fights in the Active Spot. Every active or benched Water Pokémon adds 40 damage to Gyarados's attack output.
- Close out with Gyarados: Once Mega Sharpedo EX is knocked out or retreated, promote Gyarados. Use Sabrina or Boss's Orders to drag damaged or high-cost benched Pokémon into the Active Spot for knockout blows.
Managing Matchups and Weaknesses
- Lightning Matchups: Both main attackers carry a Lightning weakness. Avoid evolving a single threat into the Active Spot without the Energy needed to attack immediately. Stagger evolution timing to prevent fast Lightning attackers from sweeping your board.
- Evolution Bottlenecks: Because the deck relies on two Stage 1 lines, draw deadlocks can occur if you hold evolutions without basic forms. Play Professor's Research freely to cycle through your deck rather than waiting for missing pieces to appear naturally.
- Preserving Bench Count: Gyarados loses 40 damage whenever a benched ally is knocked out or discarded. Do not make unnecessary trades with supporting benched units if it lowers Gyarados's damage below the threshold needed for a knockout.
