To run the Roaring Moon and Hydreigon deck in Pokémon TCG Pocket, place Roaring Moon in the Active Spot to absorb opening attacks and apply early offensive pressure while you build Hydreigon on the Bench. This Dark-type strategy pairs an aggressive Basic attacker with a Stage 2 sweeper, giving your evolution line time to develop without conceding early points.

Deck List and Card Roles

A standard 20-card list balances your evolutionary chain, consistent draw power, and mobility cards to rotate damaged attackers:

  • Deino (2 copies): Place this Basic on your Bench early to begin your Stage 2 line.
  • Zweilous (2 copies): The intermediate evolution that bridges your Bench setup toward Hydreigon.
  • Hydreigon (2 copies): Your primary late-game finisher, featuring a deep HP pool and high-damage Dark attacks.
  • Roaring Moon (2 copies): Your frontline Basic attacker that contests early opposing Pokémon and buys setup turns.
  • Professor's Research (2 copies): Core draw engine to dig for missing evolution cards.
  • Poké Ball (2 copies): Searches out Basic Pokémon to secure turn-one setup.
  • Switch or X Speed (2 copies): Mobility items used to retreat an injured Roaring Moon or advance a loaded Hydreigon.
  • Sabrina (1–2 copies): Traps an opponent’s high-retreat Pokémon in the Active Spot or pulls a vulnerable target off the bench.
  • Giovanni (1–2 copies): Grants bonus damage to secure knockouts across specific HP thresholds.

Turn-by-Turn Game Plan

1. Opening Setup

If you draw both Basic cards, lead with Roaring Moon in the Active Spot and bench Deino immediately. Never place Deino in the Active Spot when you can avoid it, as low-HP Basic evolution pieces are vulnerable to quick knockouts. Use Poké Ball right away if you need to fetch whichever piece is missing from your opening hand.

2. Energy Distribution

Because Pokémon TCG Pocket provides one Energy attachment per turn, assign your initial Energy directly to Roaring Moon until it can attack. Once Roaring Moon's attack is online, immediately route all subsequent Energy attachments to your Benched Zweilous or Hydreigon. Do not continue stacking Energy onto Roaring Moon past its attack requirements.

3. Mid-Game Pivot

When Roaring Moon takes heavy damage, play Switch or X Speed to rotate it onto your Bench rather than letting your opponent score a point. Promote Hydreigon once it has reached Stage 2 and accumulated enough Dark Energy to attack.

4. Closing the Match

Use Sabrina to drag out opposing Bench targets that have high retreat costs, buying time to find your evolution pieces if your draws stall. Once Hydreigon enters the Active Spot, use its high HP pool and Giovanni-boosted attacks to sweep the remaining Active threats.
