To pilot the Shuckle and Vespiquen deck in Pokémon TCG Pocket, place Shuckle in the Active spot to absorb early attacks while evolving Combee into Vespiquen on your Bench. Because every Pokémon in this deck awards only one point when knocked out, your opponent must take three separate knockouts to win, allowing you to win the prize race against aggressive multi-prize Pokémon EX.
20-Card Deck List
This archetype relies on a compact Grass engine supported by standard draw and disruption Items and Supporters.
| Card | Count | Role |
|---|---|---|
| Shuckle | 2 | Active wall, status disruption, and opening stall |
| Combee | 2 | Basic stage needed to evolve on the Bench |
| Vespiquen | 2 | Primary Stage 1 Grass attacker |
| Poké Ball | 2 | Searches unevolved Basic Pokémon from the deck |
| Professor's Research | 2 | Draws two cards to find evolution pieces |
| X Speed | 2 | Reduces retreat costs to pivot Shuckle or Combee |
| Potion | 2 | Heals 20 damage to keep Shuckle in the Active spot |
| Sabrina | 1–2 | Forces the opponent to switch their Active Pokémon |
| Giovanni | 1 | Adds +10 damage to hit critical knockout thresholds |
| Red Card | 1 | Resets large opposing hands to disrupt setup |
Turn-by-Turn Strategy
1. Opening Setup
Open with Shuckle in the Active spot whenever possible. If you start with Combee active, attach an Energy or play X Speed to retreat it to the Bench immediately. Use Poké Ball to find Combee early. Begin directing your turn Energy attachments to the benched Combee so that it is ready to attack immediately upon evolving into Vespiquen.
2. Mid-Game Transition
Once Vespiquen is evolved and loaded with required Energy, evaluate Shuckle's remaining HP. If Shuckle has already taken heavy damage, allow the opponent to knock it out rather than wasting resources to retreat it. Sacrificing Shuckle only gives up a single prize point. Move Vespiquen into the Active spot, apply Giovanni if you need +10 damage for an exact knockout, and take your first point.
3. Late-Game Attrition
Prepare a secondary Combee and Vespiquen on your Bench before your active attacker falls. Distribute Energy so the backup Vespiquen is primed to attack the moment your first attacker is knocked out. Forcing the opponent to take three individual single-prize knockouts gives you enough turns to claim three points first.
Matchup Gameplans
- Aggressive EX Decks: Multi-prize decks aim to finish games in two knockouts. Deny them easy targets by keeping only necessary Pokémon on your board. Use Potion to make Shuckle absorb extra hits, forcing the opponent to overcommit Energy before Vespiquen enters the Active spot to take down their high-HP EX attackers.
- Water-Type Decks: Vespiquen hits Water Pokémon for weakness. This damage bonus lets Vespiquen take one-shot knockouts against bulky Water targets that normally require multiple turns to defeat.
- Stall and Control Decks: Play Sabrina to pull high-retreat support Pokémon from the opponent's Bench into their Active spot. Trapping these targets gives you free turns to attach Energy and gather Trainer cards.
Weaknesses and Counterplay
- Evolution Bottlenecks: The deck cannot function if Combee does not evolve into Vespiquen quickly. Use Professor's Research aggressively to dig through the deck if you miss your Stage 1 attacker.
- Bench Sniping and Spread Damage: Because Combee has low HP, opponents with bench-damaging attacks can eliminate it before it evolves. Avoid placing a second Combee onto the Bench until you have Vespiquen in hand or defensive cards ready to support it.

I wish I had read this before upgrading the wrong thing.
The tips are practical and easy to follow.
Can you add more details about early game in a future update?
I tried this today and it worked better than my old setup.
