To survive late waves and break high score thresholds like 11,000 points in Project Clean Earth's Survival Mode, prioritize 360-degree area-of-effect (AoE) weapons, upgrade movement speed early, and maintain an uninterrupted outer-perimeter kiting loop. Survival Mode increases mutant spawn density significantly faster than standard campaign stages, making stationary play and single-target weapons ineffective as the timer advances.

Weapon Upgrade Hierarchy

Because armored and heavy swarms flood the arena around the five-minute mark, Bernard needs weapons that pierce through groups and fire continuously without requiring directional aiming. Weapons with automatic 360-degree coverage allow you to watch for escape paths instead of aiming into oncoming packs.

Select weapons during level-up choices according to this priority:

  • High Priority (Area Denial and Piercing): Weapons such as the Flamethrower, Tesla/Lightning emitters, and rotating Drone or Blade barriers. These create persistent damage zones around Bernard, stopping fast-moving runners from clipping you.
  • Secondary Priority (Automated Mid-Range): Rocket launchers and orbiting defense drones. These automatically soften incoming heavy mutants before they reach melee range.
  • Low / Situational Priority (Single-Target and Precision Beams): Direct-fire weapons that deal high single-target damage. Only select these if you have already secured at least two reliable crowd-clearing weapons.

Passive Module Upgrade Order

Upgrading defensive and utility modules early ensures Bernard can outrun fast mutants and collect resources without taking collision damage.

Module / StatSurvival Mode RoleRecommended Timing
Movement SpeedOutruns mutant clusters and avoids charging elite attacksEarly (Levels 1–10)
Pickup Range / MagnetDraws in fuel and experience cells without diving into swarmsEarly to Mid Game
Cooldown ReductionShortens cycles for barrier uptime and weapon pulsesMid Game (Levels 10–25)
Attack Power / RangeScales weapon damage and broadens perimeter coverageThroughout the run
HP / Shield CapacityAbsorbs stray projectile hits and occasional collisionsLate Game (Levels 25+)

Prioritizing Movement Speed in the opening ten levels prevents Bernard from getting hemmed in by expanding mobs. Pair this with Pickup Range so dropped resources are gathered automatically while you maintain your route.

Kiting and Movement Strategy

Never stand still or try to hold a stationary choke point in Survival Mode. Once enemy density peaks, holding ground leads to surrounded deaths.

  1. Maintain an outer perimeter loop: Run in a wide elliptical path around the arena's edges. This herds the pursuing mutants into a dense line behind Bernard, maximizing the multi-hit value of penetrating weapons and explosive blasts.
  2. Avoid cutting through the center: Moving across the interior traps Bernard between trailing hordes and newly spawned enemies along the borders.
  3. Repositioning when blocked: If a fresh spawn cluster blocks your forward path along the edge, do not reverse back into the trailing swarm. Turn inward at an angle, burn through the thinnest point of the forward group, and re-establish your circular path on the opposite edge of the arena.

Managing Elites and Bosses

Bosses and elite mutants disrupt clearing paths due to their high health pools. Do not focus all fire on a boss at the expense of clearing regular enemies, or the surrounding swarm will collapse your maneuvering space.

  • Damage passively: Keep the boss trailing inside the range of your automated weapons and orbiting drones while continuing to run your perimeter loop.
  • Evade telegraphed attacks: Watch for ground-pound shockwaves and charge telegraphs. When an elite halts its movement animation to prepare an attack, immediately cut perpendicular to its facing direction. Once it dashes into empty space, return to your outer loop.

Collecting Canisters and Experience

Reversing direction to pick up dropped energy cells or fuel canisters is a frequent cause of failed runs. Dropped items remain on the ground and do not disappear immediately.

Leave dropped canisters in place and continue your loop. As the trailing pack follows Bernard away from the drop site, the area clears. You can collect the resources safely on your next circuit around the map without breaking your kiting momentum or taking collision damage.
