To clear Level 178 in Rotate Rings, set up your outer exit channel before releasing any spheres from the center. Releasing the entire cluster of balls at once causes bottlenecks at narrow intermediate gaps, while rotating the outer wheel late risks knocking falling spheres off course. Establishing the exit route first lets you guide the balls downward one layer at a time.

Setting Up the Outer Exit Channel

Before moving the core or middle rings, align the puzzle's outer boundary to create an unobstructed path to the collection cup:

  1. Align the outer ring: Rotate the outermost ring until its cut-out gap sits directly at the bottom of the frame over the collection funnel.
  2. Angle the adjacent ring: Turn the second-most outer ring until its opening rests roughly 30 to 45 degrees away from the bottom exit. This creates a downward ramp that slows the spheres rather than dropping them straight down at high speed.
  3. Verify clearance: Ensure no solid interior wall sections project into the intended drop path between the second ring and the bottom exit.

Once this path is locked, leave the outer ring stationary.

Releasing the Core in Controlled Waves

Dumping all balls out of the center chamber at once creates traffic jams where spheres wedge together against the intermediate openings. To maintain control, release the spheres in distinct batches:

  1. Rotate the center wheel slowly until its opening meets the first intermediate chamber.
  2. Let approximately one-third of the balls pass through the gap, then immediately turn the center wheel back slightly to close the opening.
  3. Turn the intermediate ring toward your prepared outer channel so gravity pulls the small cluster into the goal.
  4. Repeat this release sequence for the remaining balls in two additional waves.

Managing smaller groups prevents balls from pushing each other into dead-end arcs.

Managing Rotation Speed

Fast or erratic swipes activate the physics engine's momentum, sending spheres upward along the ring curves instead of letting them fall through open notches.

Rotation SpeedSphere BehaviorApplication
Fast SwipeHigh bounce, scattered spread, upward arcAvoid entirely on Level 178
Moderate TurnSpheres slide along the wall while staying clusteredTransferring balls through open outer paths
Micro-AdjustmentPrecise roll, drops directly into the notchAligning narrow gaps on middle rings

Always stop rotating the moment a cluster reaches an opening so gravity can pull the spheres down naturally.

Recovering Trapped Spheres

If a sphere gets stranded in an opposing quadrant, do not spin the entire puzzle. Broad rotations will scatter any remaining balls and misalign the outer exit channel.

Instead, touch only the specific ring holding the stray sphere. Pivot that ring back and forth in small, gentle arcs. This rocking motion builds enough momentum to push the sphere over the inner lip and into the cleared downward channel without disrupting the rest of the board.
