To customize your Death Knight's Legion Artifact weapon appearances in World of Warcraft, cast Death Gate to travel to Ebon Hold, switch to the weapon's matching specialization, and interact with the Forge of the Guardians. Unlocked appearance variants can then be applied to your current weapons at any standard city Transmogrification NPC.

Reaching the Forge of the Guardians

Accessing your class artifact interface requires visiting your Order Hall:

  1. Open your spellbook and check the General tab for the Death Gate spell.
  2. Cast Death Gate to teleport directly to Ebon Hold.
  3. Head to the primary central chamber of Ebon Hold to locate the Forge of the Guardians.
  4. Right-click the forge to open your class specialization's appearance customization menu.

Unlocking and Customizing Artifact Appearances

The Forge of the Guardians manages all base models, upgraded variants, color tints, and hidden skins for your Death Knight weapons.

  • Specialization Requirements: You must switch your active specialization (Blood, Frost, or Unholy) to customize or view appearances for that specific spec's weapon.
  • Base Appearance Unlock: If an appearance category is missing or grayed out, complete the initial Legion Artifact Acquisition questline for that specialization to unlock its base model.
  • Requirement Tracking: Hovering over any locked skin tint inside the forge menu reveals its unlock condition, such as specific dungeon achievements, world quest completions, or PvP milestones.
  • Hidden Skins: Hidden artifact appearances unlock through specific Legion activity requirements, such as rare boss drops or faction reputation thresholds (such as the Court of Farondis). Completing the required objective updates your forge menu so the skin can be selected.

Applying Appearances via Transmogrification

Interacting with the Forge of the Guardians previews skins and unlocks progress on your character. Once a variant or color tint is unlocked at the forge, you do not need to return to Ebon Hold every time you upgrade your gear. Visit any standard Transmogrification NPC in major faction cities to apply your unlocked Legion Artifact looks to eligible equipped weapons.
