The best planet order in Star Wars™: KOTOR II after leaving Telos is Nar Shaddaa, Dantooine, Dxun and Onderon, and Korriban. Setting your galaxy map route in this sequence solves your earliest gear bottlenecks, secures character progression milestones, and ensures you meet alignment prerequisites before exploring restricted end-game areas.

Route StepDestinationKey Objectives and Milestones
1Nar ShaddaaAssemble your first lightsaber, recruit Mira or Hanharr, reach level 15 prestige class requirements
2DantooineRetrieve the Exile's personal crystal, recruit Disciple (female Exile), investigate Jedi Enclave
3Dxun and OnderonComplete Mandalorian camp duels, secure high-tier weapon mods, begin the Onderon civil conflict
4KorribanInvestigate the Sith Academy, enter the alignment-locked Shyrack cave secret tomb

1. Nar Shaddaa: Complete Your Lightsaber and Unlock Prestige

Travel to Nar Shaddaa immediately after departing Citadel Station on Telos. The primary combat limitation early in the campaign is the lack of a proper lightsaber. Nar Shaddaa offers the fastest route to acquiring the missing fixtures through quests involving Tienn Tubb, Refugee Sector bosses, or Lootra's family dispute.

Nar Shaddaa also provides large amounts of quest experience through cantina bounties and civilian tasks without demanding advanced combat builds. This influx of experience allows you to hit level 15 quickly. If you have shifted your alignment strongly toward the Light or Dark side, Kreia will trigger your prestige class specialization aboard the Ebon Hawk at level 15, unlocking roles like Jedi Weapon Master, Jedi Watchman, Sith Marauder, or Sith Assassin.

Additionally, the moon enables vital companion milestones:

  • Recruits either Mira (Light/Neutral) or Hanharr (Dark).
  • Provides parts required to rebuild HK-47.
  • Yields early influence opportunities to begin Jedi training for Atton Rand and Bao-Dur.

2. Dantooine: Claim the Scaling Personal Crystal

Chart a course for Dantooine second to dramatically increase your Exile's combat stats. Inside the Kinrath-infested Crystal Cave near Khoonda, you can retrieve the Exile's personal "Name Crystal."

Unlike standard lightsaber crystals, this unique item permanently scales with your Exile's character level. Speaking with Kreia on the Ebon Hawk allows you to re-tune the crystal periodically, granting scaling bonuses to Force points, attack rolls, damage, and attributes aligned with your moral alignment. Inserting this crystal into the lightsaber assembled on Nar Shaddaa establishes a reliable damage baseline for mid-game combat.

Beyond the cave, clearing the mercenary skirmishes outside Khoonda and searching the Jedi Enclave ruins advances the search for the remaining Jedi Masters. If you are playing a female Exile, Dantooine is where you recruit the Disciple into your crew.

3. Dxun and Onderon: Handle Mid-Game Combat Spikes

Proceed to Dxun as your third stop. The jungle moon and its neighboring city of Iziz feature aggressive beast packs (such as Cannoks, Bomas, and Zakkegs) and heavily armored royal guards that present steep difficulty spikes for lower-level crews.

Entering this zone with prestige classes, upgraded lightsabers, and trained companions makes these encounters manageable:

  • Dxun: Complete the Mandalorian camp tasks and battle circle duels to earn top-tier armors and weapon modifications.
  • Onderon: Navigate the political conflict between Queen Talia and General Vaklu in Iziz, taking down turret emplacements and elite soldiers for valuable workbench crafting components.

The Onderon storyline temporarily pauses after the initial Iziz tasks, allowing you to re-gear before the planet's later civil war sequence triggers.

4. Korriban: Enter the Alignment-Gated Secret Tomb

Reserve Korriban for your final planet. The planet offers no new companion recruits and contains hazardous ruins filled with Tuk'ata packs, stealthy Sith Assassins, and minefields.

More importantly, Korriban's primary encounter—the Secret Tomb located inside the Shyrack cave—requires an extreme alignment rating. The sealed entrance will not open unless your character is strongly dedicated to pure Light or pure Dark. Visiting Korriban earlier in the campaign risks falling short of this alignment threshold, forcing you to backtrack later or skip the tomb entirely. Tackling Korriban fourth ensures your decisions across Nar Shaddaa, Dantooine, and Onderon have maxed out your alignment meter so you can access the tomb's trials without interruption.
