In Starguard: Evo Merge TD, use the board reroll mechanic only after executing all possible unit merges. Rerolling replaces non-matching units on your grid to create space for higher-tier evolutions, but spending resources on fresh rolls before combining available pairs wastes board capacity and currency.
When to Use the Reroll Mechanic
The reroll button on the main interface refreshes your active unit selection pool. Using it resolves a board lock, which occurs when your grid is filled with low-level troopers that cannot be combined to form stronger variants.
Strategic timing keeps your board clear without wasting resources:
- Reroll immediately after a synthesis: Merging two units frees up a grid slot. If the next available unit does not fit your immediate evolution path, trigger a reroll while that slot is open.
- Hold rerolls during manageable waves: If your active line easily clears incoming mechanical invaders, save your currency. Avoid spending resources to hunt for specific unit types while your current setup is stable.
Board Management Order and Stopping Points
To manage your board grid efficiently, follow a strict decision hierarchy:
- Execute all active merges: Combine every matching pair on the board first to elevate unit tiers and clear grid space.
- Deploy reserve units: Place available units from your reserve pool to open secondary merge opportunities.
- Reroll stagnant slots: Spend currency to refresh your selection only when no merges remain and non-contributing units fill your board.
Stop rerolling as soon as a refresh provides a unit that completes a pair or unlocks an immediate synthesis path. Continuously rerolling for a specific high-tier unit drains currency reserves without guaranteeing an evolution. As stage difficulty increases, transition your strategy from rerolling for ideal units to maximizing the performance of your existing board through disciplined merges.
