Chow (Water Dragon Knight) functions as a self-sustaining bruiser in Summoners War who can reverse losing matches when built on high-efficiency runes. His passive skill, Flow, cleanses debuffs and restores a portion of his maximum HP at the start of every turn while scaling his damage. Because he clears harmful effects automatically on his turn, an optimized Chow can dismantle control compositions that lack heavy burst damage or continuous Oblivion.

Rune Builds and Secondary Sets

Chow requires a Violent primary set. An extra turn granted by a Violent proc triggers a second heal from Flow, immediately cleanses newly applied debuffs, and resets the cooldown on his burst skill, Justice.

Select a secondary two-piece set based on the specific threats you need to manage:

  • Nemesis: The primary competitive choice. Taking substantial damage cuts the attack bar queue, pushing Chow's turn up so Flow can cleanse and heal him before the enemy completes a full combo rotation.
  • Will: Grants immunity on turn one to protect Chow against early attack bar reduction and cooldown-reset skills before his first natural turn.
  • Destroy: Ideal for guild content and protracted matches against stall teams. It caps the enemy's maximum HP over time, preventing draws against high-sustain targets like Ariel, Camilla, or Riley.

Stat Benchmarks and Substat Priorities

Flow automatically purges debuffs on Chow's turn, making Resistance unnecessary. Allocate substats entirely toward offensive and defensive bruiser attributes:

StatPrimary SlotTarget PvP BenchmarkRole in Build
HPSlot 4 or 6+25,000 to +30,000Scales Flow's healing and guards against defense-ignoring attacks
AttackSlot 6 or Substats+800 to +1,100Increases baseline damage for Skill 1 and Justice
DefenseSlot 6 or Substats+500 to +700Increases effective HP so percentage heals recover more survivability
SpeedSlot 2+100 to +125Ensures steady turn cycling so he is not lapped by control units
Crit RateSlot 4 or Substats85% to 100%Prevents missed critical hits against Water, Light, and Dark units
Crit DamageSlot 4140% to 160%Maximizes the finishing potential of Justice

For artifact stats, prioritize Skill 2 Crit Damage, Damage Dealt on Fire, and Increased Recovery on Skill 3 to amplify his passive healing and single-target burst.

When to Draft and Counter Chow

Chow is most effective as a fourth or fifth counter-pick in World Arena or as an offense anchor in Siege Battle.

  • When to pick: Select Chow into fire-heavy rosters (such as Douglas, Karnal, or Vanessa) and control drafts that rely on stuns, freeze, and continuous damage rather than instant kill pressure. Without sustained burst, these compositions cannot outpace Flow's recovery.
  • When to avoid: Never draft Chow into monsters with Oblivion, such as Tesarion or Isis. Oblivion disables Flow entirely, eliminating his passive cleanse and self-healing. Avoid high-burst Wind units (such as Dominic) and fixed-damage threats (such as Miles) that can wipe his HP bar before he takes a turn.

PvP Combat Priorities

To execute a solo win condition with Chow, follow this target order:

  1. Eliminate Wind threats first: Direct team attacks toward Wind attackers and fixed-damage units to protect Chow's elemental advantage.
  2. Conserve Justice for finish thresholds: Use Skill 1 to apply continuous damage on bulky frontlines, reserving Justice for targets vulnerable to immediate elimination.
  3. Force isolated 1v1 engagements: Trade down enemy supports and burst units early. In late-game attrition states with few units remaining, Chow's passive recovery will consistently out-sustain single-target damage.
