To run Fire Ken (or his non-collaboration version, Fire Shadow Claw) reliably in Summoners War Steel Fortress, leave his Skill 2 one upgrade short of max level. Keeping his Skill 2 cooldown at four turns prevents automated battle artificial intelligence from prioritizing it over Skill 3, ensuring he applies Beneficial Effect Block before the Wind Ancient Colossus casts its shield.

Why Fire Ken's Skill 2 Must Stay Unmaxed

The Steel Fortress boss relies on hit-count shields and defensive buffs. Fire Ken directly counters this mechanic through his third skill, Shinryuken, which strikes three times, strips existing buffs, and applies Beneficial Effect Block for two turns. He also carries elemental advantage against the Wind Ancient Colossus, granting an innate +15% Critical Rate bonus.

Automated AI decides abilities based on skill availability. When Skill 2 (Tatsumaki Senpukyaku) is fully skilled, its cooldown drops from four turns to three turns:

  • Fully maxed Skill 2 (3-turn cooldown): Fire Ken uses Skill 2 during the trash waves or opens with it against the boss. If he uses Skill 2 instead of Shinryuken on his first boss turn, the Colossus erects its defensive shield and triggers counterattacks that can wipe squishy damage dealers.
  • Skill 2 left one level short (4-turn cooldown): Fire Ken consistently holds Shinryuken for the boss wave, opening the encounter with a strip and Beneficial Effect Block before the Colossus gains its barrier.

Fire Ken Stat Benchmarks and Rune Builds

Fire Ken needs sufficient Speed and Accuracy to act before the boss and land his debuffs, followed by heavy offensive stats to deplete the Colossus's health.

Stat MetricTarget ValuePrimary Rune Slots
Speed (SPD)+75 to +95Slot 2: ATK% or SPD
Critical Rate (CR)85% (caps at 100% vs. Wind)Slot 4: Critical DMG
Critical Damage (CD)160% or higherSlot 4: Critical DMG
Accuracy (ACC)45% (dungeon cap)Substats / Artifacts
Attack (ATK)+1,400 or higherSlot 2 & Slot 6: ATK%

Rage/Blade or Fatal/Blade provides the highest burst damage. Ensure Ken reaches exactly 45% Accuracy to meet the dungeon cap for both the mid-boss and the Ancient Colossus. For Artifacts, prioritize Skill 3 Accuracy, Critical Damage against Wind, and bonus damage when the enemy's HP is high.

Turn Order and Team Setup

Fire Ken cannot clear the dungeon alone; he requires a wave clearer and a primary defense breaker tuned to act ahead of him.

  1. Wave Clearer (Lushen): Moves first on trash waves to eliminate enemies with Amplification Magic.
  2. Defense Breaker / Stripper (Loren or Galleon): Moves first against the mid-boss and Colossus to apply Defense Break and remove pre-existing shields. Loren should have roughly 5 to 10 more Speed than Ken after totem bonuses.
  3. Primary Debuffer (Fire Ken): Moves directly after the defense breaker. He casts Shinryuken to strip, block beneficial effects, and deal heavy single-target damage.
  4. Clean-Up Damage (Kro, Brandia, or Baleghyr): Moves last in the rotation to burst down the defense-broken, debuffed boss before it takes a turn.

Correcting a Fully Skilled Fire Ken

If you have already fully skilled Fire Ken's second skill, choose one of two fixes:

  • Switch to Violent: Re-rune Ken on a Violent set with +100 Speed or higher so he can cycle turns rapidly and recover from an ill-timed Skill 2.
  • Build Fire Shadow Claw: Build the non-collaboration alternate monster from scratch and stop skill upgrades before taking the final cooldown reduction on Skill 2.
