To consistently beat Fire Striker (Douglas) in high-rank Guild Siege battles, you must neutralize his passive skill, Exposed Edge. Douglas gains up to a 50% chance to turn incoming attacks into glancing hits whenever his attack power exceeds the attacker's attack power. Landing a glancing hit prevents critical strikes, blocks most debuffs, and triggers Douglas's retaliatory counter-attack, which stuns and absorbs attack bar.

Countering Douglas requires drafting around this passive by deploying units with non-glancing fixed damage, stacking high-attack Water bruisers that lower his glancing odds, or disabling his passive entirely.

Strategy 1: Non-Glancing and Fixed Damage

Bypassing glance checks entirely is the most direct way to eliminate Douglas without triggering his counter-attack:

  • Bomb Detonations: Bombers such as Seara, Liebli, and Malaka bypass defense and glancing checks once a bomb is placed. A detonated bomb deals true damage based on the bomber's attack power. Pair bomb setters with reliable strippers to clear immunity.
  • Flat True Damage: Monsters like Miles and Borgnine deal flat bonus damage or fixed max-HP reduction. These effects ensure consistent damage output even during turns where regular physical hits land as glances.
  • Onimusha Raw Attack (Suiki): Because Onimusha cannot land critical hits, their stat budgets prioritize immense raw attack. Suiki easily surpasses Douglas's attack threshold, which sharply drops the activation rate of Exposed Edge. As a Water monster, Suiki also forces Douglas to fight through elemental disadvantage.

Strategy 2: High-Attack Water Bruiser Cores

When playing a turn-based attrition fight, draft Water bruisers with high offensive attack stats alongside reliable sustain:

  1. Leverage Elemental Disadvantage: Douglas faces an innate 50% glance rate when attacking Water monsters, significantly cutting his direct threat and lifesteal.
  2. Bring Anti-Crit and Speed Cycling: A core of Vigor (Water Werewolf 2A) and Lulu and Friends (2A) provides anti-crit buffs, continuous cleansing, and healing. Anti-crit minimizes the burst damage Douglas deals if he lands a counter on your team.
  3. Eliminate Support Threats First: Douglas defenses often include revivers or heavy support like Nana, Triana, or Betta. Strip away his supports first to isolate Douglas before committing major cooldowns to finish him.

Strategy 3: Disabling Exposed Edge with Tesarion

If you do not have dedicated Water bruisers or bombers built, Tesarion is the standard counter to deactivate Douglas:

  • Speed-Tuning: Tune Tesarion to move directly after your stripper or defense breaker so he can apply Oblivion before Douglas takes a turn.
  • Accuracy Benchmark: Aim for 45% to 50% Accuracy on Tesarion for Siege. Build adequate HP and Defense so he survives an initial retaliatory hit if the first attack glances.
  • Focusing the Target: Once Oblivion lands, Douglas loses both his passive glancing check and his counter-attack trigger, allowing standard damage dealers to eliminate him quickly.
  • Lockdown Alternatives: If Oblivion is unavailable, hard crowd control such as cooldown resets, attack bar depletion, or Provoke will prevent Douglas from taking active turns. Keep in mind that passive counter-attacks can still trigger through some debuffs unless his passive is broken or he is actively stunned.

Gearing and Battle Pitfalls

  • Low-Attack Supports: Never attack Douglas using low-attack supports or healers if you can avoid it. A monster with negligible base attack maximizes Douglas's passive glance chance and frequently triggers counter-attacks into your team. Direct support hits into Douglas's teammates instead.
  • Vampire Rune Recovery: Most competitive Douglas builds run Vampire runes. Leaving Douglas at low health without a heal block or an immediate follow-up attack allows him to counter-attack, heal back to full health, and swing the match. Secure clean lethal damage in a single rotation or apply Unrecoverable before bursting him down.
