To counter Velaska (the Collab Original equivalent of Water Ciri) in Summoners War World Arena, draft hard speed controls, fatal-damage protection, or resilient Wind bruisers. Velaska is a pure single-target burst assassin whose damage scales directly with Attack Speed alongside Attack and Critical Damage. Absorbing or disrupting her opening strike neutralizes her team impact, leaving her vulnerable due to low baseline durability.
Neutralize Speed Scaling with Leo
The most direct check to Velaska is Leo (Wind Dragon Knight). His passive skill, Eye of the Storm, restricts the combat speed of all monsters to his own base speed.
Because Velaska relies on high Attack Speed to scale her burst multipliers, capping her speed severely diminishes her damage output on turn one. This denies her the ability to eliminate standard targets before your team acts.
| Opponent Setup | Recommended Leo Response | Strategic Result |
|---|---|---|
| Swift Booster + Velaska | Leo with Nemesis Healer/Cleanser | Velaska's damage drops; Nemesis cuts turn order after damage. |
| Speed Lead + Control | Leo with High-Resistance Bruisers | Eliminates enemy turn-one advantage and preserves high HP pools. |
| Double Water Core (Velaska/Moore) | Leo with Wind Attackers (e.g., Dominic) | Protects key allies and lets Wind threats target Velaska directly. |
If the opponent bans Leo, your remaining four picks operate free from speed-contest pressure. If they let Leo through, Velaska loses her primary offensive multiplier.
Absorb Burst with Passives and Defensive Artifacts
When Leo is unavailable or banned, rely on death-prevention passives and targeted artifact stats to survive Velaska’s opening hit.
Death-Prevention Anchors
- Vanessa (Fire Valkyrja): Grants a 33% Arena Speed Lead and automatically revives a fallen ally via Warrior's Return. If Velaska targets an ally, Vanessa revives that monster with an immediate Attack Bar boost. If Velaska targets Vanessa, her natural bulk usually prevents a lethal outcome.
- Triana (Wind Harp Magician): Her passive, Salvation, interrupts lethal damage, prevents the death of an ally, and grants an immediate defensive recovery to break the enemy attack sequence.
Target Artifact Substats
Equip defensive anchors and fragile units with specific left-side artifact substats to survive Velaska's first turn:
- Damage Received from Water -%
- Single-target Skill Damage Taken -%
Stacking these substats to reach a 12% to 18% overall damage reduction frequently prevents Velaska from securing an unassisted one-shot.
Exploit Elemental Glancing with Wind Bruisers
Velaska is a Water attribute monster. Drafting durable Wind bruisers introduces a natural 50% glancing hit chance against her attacks, cutting Critical Damage and sharply reducing overall burst.
- Byungchul (Wind Dokkaebi Lord): Features native HP-scaling durability and counterattack damage. Velaska cannot eliminate him cleanly, and his counterattacks punish her low base defense.
- Xing Zhe (Wind Monkey King): Provides passive teamwide damage reduction and threatens revenge counterattacks with stun potential whenever Velaska strikes an ally.
- Dominic (Wind Weapon Master): Withstands single-target Water hits and eliminates Velaska on the follow-up turn using true-damage passive procs.
Draft and Ban Priority Rules
When facing a Velaska composition during the pick-and-ban phase, apply these drafting rules:
- Avoid soft Fire picks early: Do not select low-durability Fire units (such as Douglas, Masha, or Sekhmet) into an early Velaska pick without pairing them with defensive anchors like Triana or Vanessa.
- Identify the enabler: If Velaska is paired with an aggressive defense breaker (such as Gemini or Luer), ban the defense breaker rather than Velaska. Velaska rarely eliminates tanky, Will-runed targets without defense break setup.
- Ban secondary threats: If the opponent runs multiple damage dealers alongside Velaska, use your ban on the monster that threatens your specific Wind bruisers or defensive supports, trusting your elemental advantage to handle Velaska.

This saved me time in the early game.
The explanation is clear, especially for beginners.
Nice guide. I am checking the other Summoners War articles next.
This helped me understand updates much better.
