To beat Chapter 24 in The Walking Dead: Aftermath, build the three perimeter Gunner Towers—located at the left, right, and bottom of the quarry map—while maintaining a continuous circular kiting route to evade armed and exploding walkers. Because the quarry arena is extremely small, survival depends on relying on automated crossfire and triggering explosive enemies at a safe distance before they reach you.

Gunner Tower Placement and Build Order

The Chapter 24 quarry features three fixed construction nodes around the outer edges: the bottom, the left, and the right. In this confined space, personal firepower alone cannot cover all incoming angles. The automated Gunner Towers provide the necessary damage to thin out incoming swarms while you focus on dodging.

  1. Construct the bottom tower first: Securing the bottom node locks down the widest entry point where the initial horde gathers.
  2. Clear threats before building: Constructing or repairing a tower requires standing completely still on the node for several seconds. Clear the immediate area before interacting with a node, and cancel immediately if an explosive walker approaches or an armed walker takes aim.
  3. Expand to the side towers: Once the bottom node is established, rotate along the perimeter to activate the left and right towers during natural pauses between waves.
  4. Maintain at least two active towers: In the later phases of the stage, maintain at least two working towers simultaneously to ensure overlapping firing lanes across the center of the quarry.

Countering High-Threat Walkers

The small arena makes specific enemy variants significantly more dangerous than standard walkers. Adjust your movement based on the threats currently active on the field.

Enemy ThreatPrimary DangerCounter Strategy
Armed WalkersMid-range ballistic damage that rapidly depletes healthBreak line of sight behind stone pillars or built towers; attack during firing pauses
Exploding WalkersFast movement speed and lethal area-of-effect blast damageSprint into trigger range to activate the fuse, dodge backward, and splash surrounding swarms
Standard SwarmsBlocking escape paths and pinning you against wallsKite in wide loops through active tower fire arcs

Breaking Line of Sight Against Armed Walkers

Walkers carrying guns acquire targets from mid-range and deal continuous ballistic damage. Do not run in a straight line or attempt to trade shots in the open. Instead, weave diagonally between the quarry's rock outcroppings and the physical structures of your Gunner Towers. By positioning a tower between yourself and an armed enemy, the automated turret will eliminate the shooter while the tower base blocks incoming fire.

Controlled Detonations for Exploding Walkers

Exploding walkers run faster than standard enemies and begin a short countdown once they close the gap. Avoid shooting them at close range. To neutralize them safely, intentionally bait their detonation:

  1. Close the distance briefly to trigger the fuse timer.
  2. Immediately dash or dodge in the opposite direction.
  3. Steer ordinary walkers into the blast radius so the detonation clears out surrounding targets.

Kiting Route for the Compact Quarry

Cutting across the center of the quarry puts you directly between converging melee swarms and ranged fire. To prevent getting trapped against the rocks, execute a continuous perimeter loop:

  • Follow an unbroken boundary circuit: Move clockwise or counterclockwise along the outer edge of the quarry, cycling past the left, bottom, and right tower positions.
  • Keep the horde behind you: Maintaining momentum along the walls keeps the majority of the swarm trailing in a single line, maximizing their exposure to tower crossfire.
  • Watch choke-point spawns: When moving through the narrow corridors between the rock faces and tower plots, watch for fresh spawns directly ahead. Use crowd-control abilities or trigger an explosive walker trailing behind you to clear a path forward before you get cornered.
