To reach a +7 weapon or armor piece in The World of Magic: IMO without destroying your main equipment, craft a batch of duplicate items and upgrade them together in waves. Enhancements from +0 to +3 are guaranteed safe, but any attempt from +4 onward risks degrading or permanently shattering the item. Never apply scrolls directly to your equipped combat gear.
1. Craft Duplicate Base Items in Bulk
Because failure past the safe enhancement threshold destroys items, prepare six to ten copies of the base weapon or armor piece before using any scrolls.
- Locate Crafting NPCs: Visit crafting stations in major faction capitals (the Kingdom of Lanos or the Empire of Siras) or regional hubs such as the Village of Woody-Wordy.
- Gather Base Materials: Stockpile the recipe requirements, including monster hides, refined ores, specific mob drops, and crafting gold fees.
- Clear Inventory: Free up at least 10 to 15 bag slots to hold your batch and the required upgrade scrolls.
- Craft the Batch: Produce the full set of duplicates in one crafting session to ensure you have enough stock to absorb failures.
2. Match Scroll Tiers to Item Grade
Enchantments require specific scrolls that match your item type and level tier. Applying the wrong tier wastes resources or fails to apply.
- Scroll Types: Use Weapon Enchant Scrolls (W-Encs) for offensive gear and Armor Enchant Scrolls (A-Encs) for defensive gear.
- Scroll Grades: Match the letter grade of the scroll (such as D, C, B, or A) to the equipment's designated grade bracket.
- Safe Threshold: Upgrades from +0 up to +3 will not break or degrade the item. Reserve risk-management strategies for +4 and higher.
3. Ladder Surviving Items to +7
Upgrade your duplicate pool in horizontal waves rather than pushing a single item from +0 straight to +7. This ladder method protects your investment and isolates bad upgrade rolls.
| Step | Target Level | Procedure | Expected Outcome |
|---|---|---|---|
| Safe Baseline | +3 | Apply matching scrolls across all 6–10 base duplicates. | 100% survival rate to establish the upgrade foundation. |
| First Risk Wave | +4 | Roll one scroll on each +3 item in sequence. | Several items will fail or break, reducing your pool. |
| Mid-Tier Wave | +5 | Apply one scroll to each surviving +4 item. | Pool typically narrows to three or four viable pieces. |
| Bottleneck Wave | +6 | Roll scrolls across all remaining +5 items. | Expect one to three survivors before the final roll. |
| Final Push | +7 | Roll on your surviving +6 items one at a time. | Stop immediately once the first piece hits +7. |
4. Set Stopping Points and Recover Gold
Enchantment attempts past +5 carry high break rates. Establishing clear exit points prevents tilting and running out of gold:
- Stop on Success: Once a single item reaches +7, lock it or equip it immediately. Do not attempt to push it higher in the same session.
- Liquidate Surplus +6 Items: If multiple items hit +6, keep one for personal use and list the extra piece on the player trade market. Selling a clean +6 item often recoups the gold and material costs spent on the entire crafting run.
- Accept Total Batch Fails: If the entire batch breaks before hitting +7, do not buy emergency scrolls off the trade market or risk your active equipment. Return to farming crafting drops and gold before starting another scheduled batch.

This helped me understand strategy much better.
I wish I had read this before upgrading the wrong thing.
