To beat Neuland in Thronefall - A Little Kingdom, establish your Town Center immediately, invest early gold into a mill and its crop fields to compound your daily income, recruit archers to handle incoming flyers, and use your monarch to kite enemy packs into chokepoints.
Early Economic Setup: Town Center and Mills
Gold fuels every defense in Neuland. On Day 1, build the Town Center immediately, then invest remaining gold into the southern Mill rather than rushing defensive towers.
Each mill generates morning gold, and purchasing its surrounding crop fields scales this daily revenue. Investing in fields across Day 1 and Day 2 finances subsequent military barracks and Town Center upgrades by Day 3 and Day 4.
However, mills and fields lack inherent defenses. If roaming enemies reach an unprotected mill and destroy it, its revenue halts until the structure automatically repairs. Check upcoming wave directions before spending gold on exposed outer plots, and prioritize plots closer to your interior perimeter.
| Structure | Build Window | Primary Tactical Role | Economic / Combat Impact |
|---|---|---|---|
| Town Center | Day 1 (Immediate) | Core base structure | Unlocks higher-tier buildings and upgrades |
| Mill & Fields | Day 1 to Day 2 | Daily gold generation | Creates compounding income; vulnerable to stray mobs |
| Archery Range | Day 2 to Day 3 | Ranged and anti-air defense | Counters airborne enemies and fast runners |
| Watchtower | Day 3 to Day 5 | Automated perimeter defense | Anchors central crossroads and covers split lanes |
Archer Deployment and Unit Positioning
Ranged units provide vital coverage on Neuland. By Day 2 or Day 3, enemy waves introduce fast runners and airborne flyers. Melee ground units cannot hit flying targets and often fail to catch fast runners, making an early Archery Range essential.
Do not leave archers on automated behavior. Use the monarch's rally command to guide them into narrow corridors, particularly around the river crossings near the Town Center. Command archers to hold position so they do not chase targets into open fields and get overrun. Keeping your ranged squad anchored near the keep allows them to maintain consistent fire while your monarch draws enemy aggro.
Watchtower Placements at Central Chokepoints
Placing watchtowers near outer spawn points leads to rapid structural loss and wasted replacement costs. Instead, position watchtowers at bridges and central crossroads where enemy attack columns converge before reaching the Town Center.
Midway through Neuland, construct towers that overlap coverage between the main road and your economic buildings. Upgrading these towers increases attack speed, durability, and range. Select upgrades offering area-of-effect damage or focused single-target strikes to halt heavy units at these central chokepoints.
Monarch Combat and Aggro Kiting
Because your standing army remains small in early rounds, the monarch must handle early wave pressure directly:
- Intercept at the perimeter: Ride to the spawn borders at the start of night combat and attack clustered units before they reach your structures.
- Pull aggro from buildings: Hitting enemies forces them to drop aggro on mills and chase the monarch instead.
- Circle into firing lines: Draw chasing groups in wide circles directly through the firing arcs of your stationed archers and watchtowers.
- Disengage when damaged: If your health drops low, retreat behind your defense line. A fallen monarch triggers a respawn delay, leaving your kingdom without its primary mobile defender.
Night-by-Night Wave Strategy
- Night 1: Clear the starting melee pack using only the monarch's basic attacks. Save remaining gold for Day 2 farming.
- Night 2: Build the first Mill and buy its crop fields. Intercept fast runners with the monarch to keep them off the new farm plots.
- Night 3: Construct the Archery Range to counter flying units. Position recruited archers between the mill and the keep.
- Night 4: Upgrade the Town Center to unlock advanced buildings. Place a central watchtower at the main bridge crossing to manage split attack routes.
- Night 5: Expand unit capacity and reinforce walls along the northern approach. Disrupt armored frontline enemies using monarch crowd-control attacks.
- Final Night: Rally your archers directly around the Town Center. Let watchtowers soften incoming hordes while your monarch kites elite units in wide arcs away from core structures until dawn.

I wish I had read this before upgrading the wrong thing.
I tried this today and it worked better than my old setup.
