To avoid severe progression bottlenecks in Top Force: Commander, concentrate your hero upgrades into a single primary march rather than leveling your entire roster evenly. Early game success depends on channeling materials into one damage carry, holding universal gold shards for limited-time event commanders, and aligning your heroes with a single troop type.

Avoiding five common investment errors ensures your base expansions, campaign clears, and PvP rallies stay efficient.

Spreading EXP and Skill Books Across Too Many Heroes

Distributing Hero EXP, combat manuals, and skill books evenly across ten or more commanders will quickly stall your account. Account combat power may look higher on paper, but actual combat effectiveness relies on the concentrated power of your main march. A single high-level vanguard hero easily defeats an opposing formation led by several under-leveled units.

Hero leveling costs scale exponentially at mid-tier milestones. Raising multiple secondary heroes from level 1 to level 40 consumes resources that could otherwise push your primary damage dealer from level 60 to level 70. Keep secondary marches at minimal functional levels until your primary team reaches its level cap.

Secondary Support (Commander 2)~25% of EXP and Skill ItemsShields, crowd control, and synergy buffs

Spending Universal Shards on Standard Recruits

Universal golden shards are the rarest upgrade item in Top Force: Commander. Never spend them on heroes available through the standard recruitment pool. Standard tavern recruits appear naturally over time through daily free pulls, campaign clear rewards, and rotating alliance shop inventories.

Save all universal shards for exclusive heroes and limited-time festival commanders who do not appear in the standard recruitment pool. Consuming universal shards on standard recruits creates a severe deficit when you unlock limited event commanders whose shards cannot be obtained through daily play.

Combining Mismatched Troop Specializations

Pairing heroes that boost conflicting unit types dilutes your total army stats. Top Force: Commander units belong to Army, Navy, or Air Force branches. Most high-tier commanders provide percentage-based stat multipliers tailored strictly to one of these branches.

Deploying an Army specialist alongside an Air Force commander splits your passive bonuses and weakens both units in battle. To maximize combat strength:

  • Commit to one branch: Build your primary march around a single troop type supported by your early pulls and laboratory tech.
  • Match commander skill tags: Pair commanders that enhance the same specific unit type, or use heroes that offer "All-Unit" bonuses.
  • Align component research: Focus your military research and gear upgrades exclusively on the unit branch your primary pair leads.

Stopping Star Upgrades Before Major Skill Breakpoints

Hero strength does not increase evenly with each individual shard consumed. Instead, commander power spikes sharply at specific star ranks that unlock awakening skills, fourth-slot talents, and march size increases.

Leaving a strong hero at two or three stars to start upgrading a different commander locks away their most impactful abilities. Always check a hero's skill tree before spending promotion tokens. If a commander unlocks their primary area-of-effect ability or march bonus at four stars, push them directly to that rank before investing shards into secondary roster units.

Over-Investing in Transitional Purple Heroes

Rare (blue) and elite (purple) heroes are useful early placeholders, but they lack the damage ceilings and stat growth rates of SSR legendary commanders. Investing premium skill badges or paid upgrade packs into purple heroes creates a long-term resource loss.

Upgrade purple heroes only as much as necessary to handle early campaign stages. As soon as you acquire viable legendary commanders, transition your purple units into passive roles such as resource gathering, base garrison defense, or secondary deployment lines.
