To clear Battlefield Breakout Hard Stage 36 in Top Lords, you must preserve your squad count through the opening obstacle gauntlet, funnel melee enemies through narrow corridors, and manually reserve your crowd control to interrupt the final Elite Commander.
Hard Stage 36 was formerly labeled Nightmare 36 in earlier versions of the game. While the stage name changed, the map layout, trap mechanics, and enemy placements remain identical.
Navigating Hazards to Preserve Squad Mass
Your basic attack damage directly scales with remaining unit count. Losing soldiers to environmental hazards before reaching combat will leave your squad without the damage output needed to beat elite enemy health pools.
- Wait for the full reset: Trap obstacles cycle on fixed intervals. Do not step through immediately as a hazard begins retracting, or trailing units will clip lingering damage hitboxes.
- Use stop-and-go movement: Inch forward with short taps right outside the hazard boundary. Commit to crossing only when the path is completely clear.
- Hold central lane positioning: Keep your formation grouped along center lane margins to prevent peripheral units from colliding with side spikes or wall edges.
- Check the 80% threshold: If you reach the final room with less than 80% of your starting unit mass, reset the run. The resulting DPS loss makes burning down the final gatekeepers before enrage mechanics trigger nearly impossible.
Wave Management and Target Priority
Hard 36 features three main skirmish phases. Leaving auto-combat enabled causes frontline units to spread out and waste high-value abilities on low-priority targets. Manage movement and targeting manually through each phase.
| Encounter Phase | Primary Threat | Tactical Objective |
|---|---|---|
| Initial Chokepoint | Shielded Melee Line | Bait into the narrow corridor to prevent flanking |
| Mid-Stage Ambush | Ranged Attackers | Close the gap immediately to eliminate poke damage |
| Final Gate | Elite Commander | Focus single-target burst and interrupt heavy attacks |
1. Funnel the Initial Melee Wave
Engaging the initial shielded melee line in open terrain lets enemies wrap around your formation, exposing vulnerable rear units. Trigger the wave, then back-step slightly toward the entrance corridor. Bottlenecking the enemy vanguard keeps your formation compact and allows your squad to cleave down defenders simultaneously.
2. Collapse on the Mid-Stage Ranged Ambush
After clearing the entry chokepoint, pause briefly so trailing units regroup into formation before stepping forward into cycling floor hazards. Once the mid-stage cluster appears, close distance immediately to eliminate ranged attackers. Fire area-of-effect hero abilities the moment the enemy frontline and ranged units converge to neutralize backline damage dealers in a single rotation.
3. Lock Down the Final Elite Commander
At the final gate, ignore minor support units and lock manual target focus onto the Elite Commander.
Hold crowd-control skills, such as stuns or knockbacks, until the commander begins their charged attack wind-up animation. Interrupting this wind-up prevents heavy area-of-effect damage against your grouped soldiers. Once the commander is defeated, remaining ancillary defenders lack the damage output to threaten your surviving frontline.

I wish I had read this before upgrading the wrong thing.
Nice guide. I am checking the other Top Lords articles next.
This helped me understand strategy much better.
Can you add more details about strategy in a future update?
