To unlock Archeotech and the Rogue Trader shop in Warhammer 40,000: Tacticus ™, you must promote at least one character to maximum ascension, known as the Blue Star (or Wings) rank. Once any unit reaches this cap, the Rogue Trader shop permanently appears in your shop interface, and all surplus shards collected for that maxed character automatically convert into Archeotech.
How Archeotech Generation Works
Surplus shards for fully ascended units no longer fill promotion gauges. Instead, they convert directly into Archeotech whenever acquired. The amount of Archeotech granted per shard scales with the base rarity of the character.
| Base Rarity | Archeotech Yield per Shard | Primary Sources |
|---|---|---|
| Common | Baseline (lowest) | Campaign sweeps, basic requisitions |
| Uncommon | Moderate | Campaign nodes, basic requisitions |
| Rare | High | Standard and Elite campaigns, Onslaught honoring |
| Epic | Very high | Elite campaigns, Guild Raid chests, requisitions |
| Legendary | Maximum (highest) | Guild Raid season rewards, Onslaught, requisitions |
Two reliable methods accelerate Archeotech generation once a character is maxed:
- Requisition Pulls: Summoning duplicate copies of a maxed character immediately converts the full duplicate shard payout into Archeotech.
- Onslaught Honoring: Selecting a max-ascension character at the start of an Onslaught sector guarantees surplus shards upon completion, converting excess Onslaught tokens directly into Archeotech.
Selecting Your First Character to Max Out
Because pushing a character to Blue Star consumes hundreds of shards and scarce Legendary Ascension Orbs, your first candidate should serve a clear functional role in key game modes.
- Bellator: A cornerstone for the Indomitus campaign and Guild Raids. His shards are easily farmable in early nodes, and his summons scale heavily into late-game content.
- Aleph-Null: Critical for Indomitus Mirror and tournament modes. The self-replicating scarabs gain substantial survivability at high ranks, delivering high combat utility alongside shop access.
- Snappawrecka or Gibbascrapz: As common-rarity Orks with farmable Octarius nodes and high drop rates from basic requisitions, they require fewer total orbs to cap out, offering a faster route to unlocking the Rogue Trader if you already have surplus shards.
Avoid spending Legendary Orbs on low-utility characters solely because their shards are maxed. Mid-game progress is constrained by orb availability, so your first Blue Star must remain viable in your primary squads.
Rogue Trader Spending Priorities
The Rogue Trader inventory resets daily. Spend Archeotech selectively to address late-game resource bottlenecks.
- Legendary XP Books (Codex of War): Leveling units past level 35 demands massive experience pools that standard campaign nodes cannot sustainably supply. Legendary XP books provide the most consistent value per Archeotech spent, accelerating your primary damage dealers toward level 50.
- High-Tier Upgrade Components: Rare and Epic crafting materials from late-game campaign nodes feature low drop rates. Buying specific bottlenecks directly from the Rogue Trader saves substantial daily energy.
- Faction Badges and Orbs: Reserve Archeotech for badges only when an essential ability—such as Eldryon's Doom—is completely blocked from leveling. Rely on Onslaught and Guild Raids for routine badge farming whenever possible.
Resource Trade-offs and Pitfalls
- Do not farm campaign nodes solely for conversion: Spending standard campaign energy to gather surplus shards solely to generate Archeotech yields poor returns compared to spending that energy on direct gear upgrades.
- Balance roster breadth for events: Consuming all your Legendary Orbs on a single character can leave you unable to meet the rank requirements for Legendary Character Events. Ensure core campaign teams are stable before committing orbs to a Blue Star push.
- Manage Onslaught token priorities: Honoring a maxed unit yields reliable Archeotech, but it prevents you from using those runs to ascend unranked characters needed to unlock Elite campaigns. Use this method only when your campaign progression targets are already met.
