To actively defend your base in Warpath: Ace Shooter, stage your combat units inside your garrison and sortie out to disrupt attacking siege lines rather than leaving defense to automated base fire. Stationed units remain shielded from direct field damage until base durability is breached. By deploying mobile or high-burst units directly onto exposed attackers and immediately retreating inside, you force enemy forces to cancel lock-ons or reset their targeting onto your base structure, preserving your army while running down attacker reserves.
How to Execute Garrison Sorties
Relying on passive wall durability allows opposing commanders to position long-range artillery and anti-tank guns outside your defensive return fire range. Active sorties turn your base into a staging bunker to break this siege setup.
Execute a hit-and-run sortie using this sequence:
- Locate an isolated siege engine: Scan the attacking line for high-threat, fragile units—such as rocket launchers or heavy howitzers—that lack immediate frontline escort.
- Deploy directly on the flank: Order your strike unit to exit the base perimeter right next to the target to eliminate travel time under enemy fire.
- Discharge immediate burst damage: Fire into the target before surrounding enemy tanks or support formations turn their firing arcs toward you.
- Retreat into the garrison immediately: Command your unit back into the base as soon as enemy units acquire target locks.
Ducking back inside cancels incoming projectile trajectories and forces automated attacker fire to redirect toward your base structure. Trading base durability for unit safety is advantageous because structural durability can be restored through repairs, whereas destroyed high-tier units cost components, reserves, and production time to replace.
Manipulating Attacker Aggro
Attacking armies frequently rely on automated target prioritization or lose track of individual commands during a chaotic siege. You can exploit this targeting behavior to protect damaged units or peel pressure away from teammates:
- Aggro baiting: Pop a durable heavy unit just outside the gate to draw nearby enemy fire. The moment attackers begin their firing cycle, retreat inside. Enemy units will either stall for several seconds while clearing target locks or default back to hitting the base structure.
- Target isolation: If an overextended enemy tank pushes into direct perimeter range, sortie anti-tank units to punish its positioning while your base absorbs stray peripheral damage.
Unit Roles in Active Defense
Units with instant burst damage or high movement speed perform best during garrison sorties. Slow-moving units or weapons with long setup times should be handled with caution.
| Unit Class | Defensive Role | Operational Priority |
|---|---|---|
| Tank Hunters | Heavy armor denial | Deploy directly into enemy heavy armor arcs; retreat inside the moment infantry or artillery target them. |
| Medium & Light Tanks | Flank harassment | Sortie rapidly along the base edge to pick off unescorted howitzers and disrupt artillery positions. |
| Heavy Tanks | Aggro redirection | Deploy briefly to absorb high-impact volleys and peel fire away from vulnerable assets. |
| Howitzers / Artillery | Counter-battery fire | Punish clustered attackers from close perimeter range; monitor constantly due to slow retreat speeds. |
When to Disengage and Relocate
Active defense relies on having room to maneuver along your base perimeter. Recognize when the tactical situation deteriorates past the point where sorties are viable:
- Overlapping crossfire: If your base is surrounded from all angles, deploying units outside guarantees immediate destruction under concentrated crossfire.
- Critical structural damage: If incoming siege damage significantly outpaces your repair capacity and base durability reaches critical failure levels, stop deploying units.
When your perimeter is completely sealed or structural collapse is imminent, recall all remaining units into the garrison and initiate an emergency base relocation to prevent the complete loss of your staged forces.

Can you add more details about base building in a future update?
I tried this today and it worked better than my old setup.
Good guide for Warpath: Ace Shooter players. The base building part was useful.
This helped me understand base building much better.
