To survive and win outnumbered open-field battles in Warpath: Ace Shooter, never stand your ground against a clustered enemy force. Instead, pull your line several grid lengths away from safe zone perimeters, exploit unit movement speed differences to peel pursuers away from their pack, manually target high-threat fragile units, and disengage the moment your primary defensive skills expire.

Fighting Near Safe Zone Boundaries

Engaging opposing squads directly on the border of a protected safe zone places a solo commander at a severe disadvantage. Enemies can trade damage, step across the threshold to heal or avoid lethal fire, and re-emerge while their allies continue shooting.

  1. Pull back several grid spaces: Set your initial engagement point well outside the boundary. Opponents must travel deep into neutral terrain to chase you, extending their retreat path if the fight turns against them.
  2. Secure open retreat vectors: Keep your units pointed toward open terrain. Avoid backing into river choke points, cliffs, or dense base clusters that allow multiple pursuers to box you in.
  3. Commit only after the enemy overextends: Wait until the opposing commander moves past the point of an instant retreat before turning to fire.

Baiting and Peeling pursuers

A coordinated group of five or six enemies rarely travels at uniform speed. High-mobility light and medium tanks pull ahead of heavy armor and artillery. Use this speed gap to break a large formation into individual fights:

  • Feint an advance: Move into range of the lead enemy unit to bait aggro, then immediately reverse heading.
  • Isolate the overextended unit: Aggressive pursuers often push past their group's support range. Turn and focus your firepower on the isolated target while their backline is still out of range.
  • Break contact before the main group arrives: Disengage the moment slower reinforcements enter combat range rather than absorbing fire from the entire formation.

Open-Field Target Priority

Target selection determines whether you trade efficiently or lose your army to backline fire. Manually direct your units rather than relying on automatic targeting, which often defaults to attacking high-armor frontliners.

HighTank DestroyersHigh anti-armor penetration against your front unitsFlank and burst down before their sustained damage breaks your defenses.

Low / AvoidHeavy & Super-Heavy TanksHigh durability, thick armor, designed to absorb attacksManeuver around them; do not spend burst abilities or cooldowns on their frontal armor.

Kiting to Prevent Surrounds

Taking damage from multiple angles accelerates unit loss. When fighting solo, maintain a kiting line in broad diagonal paths or gentle arcs to keep all enemy units grouped in a single pursuit column behind you.

Keeping all hostile units in a single forward cone prevents flanking damage and forces lead pursuers to obstruct firing lines for rear-guard artillery. If an enemy vehicle attempts to cut off your flank, immediately change your heading to restore the column formation before resuming fire.

When to Disengage and Reset

A solo skirmish succeeds when you secure an isolated kill or force multiple enemies to retreat without losing your own units. Break contact and return toward friendly territory under any of the following conditions:

  • Your primary officer skills or combat abilities are on cooldown.
  • Your lead unit drops below 50% health.
  • The enemy's slower heavy armor and artillery close within effective firing range.

Resetting combat allows cooldowns to refresh and health to recover while denying the opposing team the full collapse they need to wipe your units.
