To complete the Duro’s Trace quest in Whisperborne, you must visit three sequential trail markers along the designated mountain path, keep all retrieved quest items in your character's active inventory, and select specific narrative choices when speaking to the final NPC. Attempting to skip switchbacks or storing quest items in city banking stalls will prevent the quest log from updating.
Duro's Trace Marker Sequence
You must visit the three Trace markers in strict numerical order. The top-right UI tracking icon updates only when your character stands directly on the trail coordinates for each checkpoint.
| Checkpoint | Location | Identification Marker | Next Action |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1. Initial Point | Southern forest edge | Broken shrine structure | Face north-northeast to locate shimmering light. |
| 2. Secondary Point | Northern riverbank | Shrubbery beside the waterfall | Inspect hidden marker, then climb the steep incline. |
| 3. Final Point | Mountain overlook | Cliffside crest | Collect the item, then approach the quest NPC. |
If the UI tracking icon turns grey or disappears, you have moved beyond the designated quest radius before registering the current checkpoint. Return to the previous trail section on foot to reactivate the trigger.
Required Inventory and Dialogue Triggers
After interacting with the final checkpoint on the cliffside overlook, speak with the quest NPC to finish the mission.
- Active Inventory Check: Quest-specific items retrieved from the environment markers must remain in your main character inventory. Placing these items into bank storage causes the NPC interaction window to freeze without advancing the prompt.
- Dialogue Selection: When initiating conversation, choose dialogue options that explicitly reference "Trace" or "Memories." Selecting alternate choices forces you to restart the dialogue tree.
- Combat Interruptions: Entering combat immediately cancels interactions with Trace markers. Defeat any hostile creatures near the shrine or riverbank before attempting to activate a checkpoint.
Pathing and Resource Management
Whisperborne uses hard-coded trail triggers for this quest line. Climbing directly up mountain cliffs to bypass switchbacks prevents your character from contacting mandatory coordinate nodes, which breaks the quest sequence. Follow the marked dirt trails to ensure every objective registers properly.
If your character runs low on stamina during the ascent, remain standing next to an active Trace marker. These checkpoint locations function as environmental rest areas, restoring your stamina gauge faster than standing on open terrain.

Good guide for Whisperborne players. The strategy part was useful.
Can you add more details about strategy in a future update?
Nice guide. I am checking the other Whisperborne articles next.
I tried this today and it worked better than my old setup.
