A high combat power rating in Whiteout Survival does not guarantee battlefield victory. Total power can easily be inflated by training large reserves of backline units, creating "fake power" that looks intimidating on paper but collapses quickly in live combat. To build real combat effectiveness, prioritize training your Infantry (shield units) and spend your troop training speedups on the Infantry Camp rather than spreading them evenly.
How Fake Power Works in Battle Calculations
Combat power reflects the combined value of your buildings, hero investments, research, and total troop volume. Because the game awards rating points across all troop types without evaluating defensive balance, an account heavily stacked with Lancers and Marksmen will show an imposing total combat score.
However, Whiteout Survival resolves combat damage sequentially:
- Frontline Absorption: Enemy forces strike your frontline Infantry first. Shield units absorb standard incoming attacks and counterattacks.
- Backline Protection: As long as your Infantry shield wall stands, your Lancers and Marksmen remain shielded from direct harm, allowing them to cycle skills and deliver sustained damage.
- Frontline Collapse: Once your Infantry reach zero or rout, enemy squads target your Lancers and Marksmen immediately.
- Cascading Casualties: Backline damage dealers lack defensive resilience. Without frontline mitigation, backline units suffer heavy casualties rapidly, which wipes out your damage output and quickly causes an army wipe.
When two armies of identical combat power clash, an Infantry-heavy march consistently defeats a backline-heavy march. The backline-heavy side may deal respectable initial damage, but its thin frontline folds early, causing rapid casualties and overflowing hospital beds.
Speedup Priority: Where to Invest Training Boosts
Spreading speedups equally across all three barracks dilutes your defensive frontline. To prevent frontlines from collapsing during rallies, defense assignments, and field skirmishes, direct your universal and troop speedups toward shield units.
| Troop Camp | Class Role | Strategic Priority | Speedup Guideline |
|---|---|---|---|
| Infantry Camp | Frontline shields; absorbs damage and counterattacks | High | 50%–60% of troop and universal speedups |
| Marksman Camp | Ranged DPS; consistent sustained damage | Medium | 20%–25% of training resources |
| Lancer Camp | Flank attack; single-target burst | Low | 15%–20% of training resources |
During training events like Alliance Mobilization or King of Icefield, prioritize recruiting higher tiers of Infantry before pushing other troop buildings. Having a surplus of Infantry lets you sustain repeated combat rounds, absorb rally damage, and rotate through hospital triage without leaving your remaining marches unprotected.
Steps to Rebalance an Inflated Account
If your account has excess backline power and a weak frontline, use this routine to fix your troop ratios:
- Audit your troop numbers: Check the standing headcounts in your barracks. If Infantry make up less than 40% of your total army, stop using speedups on Lancers and Marksmen.
- Route speedups to Infantry: Let Marksmen and Lancers recruit strictly on natural timers. Channel your saved general and training speedups into the Infantry Camp until your shield pool can support your backline reserves.
- Configure march presets with adequate shields: When building deployment presets for open-field combat or garrison defense, allocate 40% to 50% of the total march capacity to Infantry, splitting the remaining space between Lancers and Marksmen.
- Maintain an Infantry reserve buffer: Because shield units take direct damage in every engagement, Infantry fill infirmaries faster than any other unit type. Keep an extra reserve of Infantry in your city so subsequent march dispatches do not deploy with exposed backlines.

Can you add more details about strategy in a future update?
I tried this today and it worked better than my old setup.
This helped me understand strategy much better.
This saved me time in the early game.
