In Whiteout Survival, new hero generations unlock according to your state's server age rather than individual furnace progress or real-world calendar events. Generation 1 heroes are available from day one, while Generation 2 unlocks between Server Day 55 and Day 60. After Generation 2 arrives, every subsequent hero generation releases at predictable intervals of approximately 55 to 60 days.
Server Age Timeline by Hero Generation
Use your state's current age to determine which hero roster is active and when the next generation will debut.

| Gen 3 | Days 115–120 | Mia (Lancer), Logan (Infantry), Greg (Marksman) | Lucky Wheel (Mia), Hall of Heroes, SvS |
| Gen 4 | Days 175–180 | Lynn (Marksman), Ahmose (Infantry), Reina (Lancer) | Lucky Wheel (Lynn), Hall of Heroes, SvS |
| Gen 5 | Days 235–240 | Hector (Infantry), Norah (Lancer), Gwen (Marksman) | Lucky Wheel (Hector), Hall of Heroes, SvS |
| Gen 6 | Days 295–300 | Advanced Marksmen, Lancers, and Infantry | Lucky Wheel, Hall of Heroes, SvS |
| Gen 7 | Days 355–360 | Advanced Marksmen, Lancers, and Infantry | Lucky Wheel, Hall of Heroes, SvS |
| Gen 8 | Days 415–420 | Advanced Marksmen, Lancers, and Infantry | Lucky Wheel, Hall of Heroes, SvS |

Older generations gradually shift into secondary channels when replaced. Once a new generation takes over the primary events, shards for the preceding roster eventually rotate into standard recruitment chests, the Mystery Shop, and Daily Deals.
Hero Distribution Channels
Each generation features three primary Mythic heroes divided across specific event tracks:
- Lucky Wheel Hero: The primary wheel hero (such as Flint in Gen 2, Mia in Gen 3, Lynn in Gen 4, and Hector in Gen 5) is accessible by spending gems during bi-weekly Lucky Wheel events. This is the most reliable route for free-to-play and low-spending chiefs to earn high-tier shards.
- Hall of Heroes Hero: These heroes are unlocked and upgraded using Hall of Heroes recruitment vouchers and event-specific mission progress.
- King of Icefield and SvS Hero: The third hero in each generation is tied to State vs. State prep phase leaderboards, Castle Battle milestone rewards, and premium store packs.
How to Budget Resources for Generation Milestones
Because older heroes lose relative performance value when newer generations arrive, spending resources late in a cycle can stunt account growth. Follow these spending habits as your state approaches a 60-day unlock window:
- Stop heavy gem investment on the wheel hero early: Once your current Lucky Wheel hero reaches a functional 4-star tier, pause extra gem spending on that wheel.
- Bank gems for the next wheel: Accumulate 130,000 to 160,000 gems prior to milestone days (Day 115, 175, 235) so you can complete the full 120 spins on the incoming generation's first Lucky Wheel run.
- Hold general mythic shards: Stop spending general mythic shards during the final 20 days of a generation cycle. Save them to immediately promote the incoming generation's Hall of Heroes or SvS hero.
State Transfer and SvS Generation Disparities
During cross-server matchmaking like State vs. State (SvS), pairing algorithms group states in similar age brackets. However, states sitting on opposite sides of a cutoff threshold can face roster mismatches. If your state is at Day 170 and faces a server at Day 180, your opponent will have access to Generation 4 heroes while your alliance is still limited to Generation 3. When facing higher-generation rosters in battle, rely on defensive rally stacking and alliance troop buffs to counter newer hero base stats.
If you use the State Transfer feature, moving to an older state immediately exposes your account to higher hero generations. Conversely, transferring to a younger state group locks newer generation heroes until that specific state reaches the required server day milestone.

I wish I had read this before upgrading the wrong thing.
This saved me time in the early game.
Can you add more details about heroes in a future update?
