Choosing between Belle and Wise in Zenless Zone Zero does not affect combat performance, character stats, or story progression. The Phaethon siblings act as Proxies who guide combat squads through the Bangboo Eous rather than fighting directly in Hollows.
Your selection is permanent for that playthrough. It decides which sibling you control in the overworld and which sibling provides backup from the store.
| Feature | Belle Selected | Wise Selected |
|---|---|---|
| Field Explorer | Belle walks Sixth Street and talks to clients | Wise walks Sixth Street and talks to clients |
| Storefront Partner | Wise manages Random Play data and monitors | Belle handles storefront tasks and casual chatter |
| Radio Support | Wise provides tactical readouts and warnings | Belle offers energetic commentary and banter |
| Cinematic Tone | Expressive, animated, and comedic reactions | Calm, analytical, and measured reactions |
| Bedroom Decor | Artistic, casual, and cluttered with novelties | Organized, minimalist, and tech-focused |
Cutscenes and Character Personalities
Both siblings share the same narrative milestones, but their visual presentation in cutscenes and comic strips differs through unique animation sets.
- Belle uses dynamic, exaggerated physical comedy. When surprised or plotting a commission, she leans forward, gestures rapidly, and shows wide facial expressions. Her delivery brings high energy to interactions with factions like the Cunning Hares.
- Wise displays subdued, deliberate body language. He reacts to chaotic situations with crossed arms, subtle eyebrow movements, or quiet smiles, giving story scenes a grounded, analytical tone.
Sixth Street Hub Exploration
Outside of commissions, your chosen twin is the character navigating the Sixth Street hub.
- Movement and Idles: Belle runs with a loose, bouncing stride. When left idle, she stretches, fidgets with her jacket, checks her phone, and looks around at storefronts. Wise maintains an upright, structured posture. His idle animations include checking a wristwatch, reviewing a tablet, or standing with his hands in his coat pockets.
- Vendor Dialogue: Both twins complete the same errands at local spots like the noodle stand or the Turbo Remodel Shop, but dialogue exchanges carry slight shifts in phrasing. Belle speaks casually and enthusiastically, while Wise speaks with polite efficiency.
Hollow Radio Comms and the Bedroom
Whichever sibling you leave behind stays active in the plot as your operational partner.
During Hollow board exploration and mission updates, the unselected sibling talks to you over your comms headset. Selecting Belle means listening to Wise give calm tactical updates and corruption level warnings. Selecting Wise means Belle acts as your radio co-pilot, chiming in with lively remarks and teasing observations.
Your choice also changes which bedroom you access on the second floor of Random Play. Belle’s room features scattered notes, snacks, and hobby figures, while Wise’s room is lined with technical manuals, neatly filed data drives, and a structured workstation.
Which Protagonist Should You Pick?
Base your decision entirely on dialogue tone and visual style:
- Pick Belle if you want an expressive, spirited lead on screen and prefer a composed partner giving operational updates over the radio.
- Pick Wise if you prefer a methodical, understated protagonist paired with an energetic support partner on comms.

I tried this today and it worked better than my old setup.
Can you add more details about strategy in a future update?
