To clear The Living Horde in Zombie Night Terror, build your initial infected numbers on isolated civilian perimeters, hold your main pack with Overlords while sending isolated Bombers to breach doors, and flank shotgun survivors during their reload windows.
Success on this multi-tiered stage depends on strict traffic control so your horde does not scatter into lethal crossfire.
Convert Outer Civilians Before Alerting Central Guards
Do not rush the central survivor encampment immediately. Your starting zombie count is too small to survive direct gunfire, and walking straight into central sightlines will wipe out your pack.
- Direct your initial walkers toward isolated civilians stationed along the outer edges and upper platforms.
- Convert every unarmed civilian in these side areas to harvest DNA and generate the body mass needed for later assaults.
- Place an Overlord directly behind your entry path to establish a one-way corridor. Without an Overlord, wandering zombies will reverse upon hitting walls and stumble backward into cleared dead space.
Route Swarms Across Multi-Tiered Drops
The vertical layout of this stage can easily split your forces across platforms or drop small clusters directly into defender kill zones. Establish Overlords at drop-offs and hallway thresholds to keep the swarm moving as a unified wave.
| Overlord Position | Primary Objective | Failure Prevented |
|---|---|---|
| Upper platform drop-offs | Forces all units to drop simultaneously | Splitting the horde across isolated scaffolding |
| Narrow corridor mouths | Holds main horde behind cover | Prematurely triggering survivor firing arcs |
| Breach approaches | Directs units into new rooms | Stray zombies wandering backward into empty rooms |
When assigning an Overlord, make sure the unit stands on solid terrain rather than destructible floors. If an Overlord stands on a surface targeted for demolition, the blast destroys your directional control and disorients the pack.
Execute Controlled Door Breaches with Bombers
Fortified doors and reinforced floorboards protect fortified survivor rooms. Triggering an explosion inside your own clustered horde will kill friendly units and deplete your numbers. Always isolate your breach unit before detonating:
- Place an Overlord five to six paces back from the target barrier to stop your reserve swarm.
- Allow a single walker to move forward alone toward the closed door.
- Mutate the lead walker into a Bomber just before it contacts the door to minimize fuse time.
- Let the blast shatter the barrier and stun the defenders behind it.
- Release the Overlord immediately so your reserve runners flood through the opening before defenders recover.
Flank Shotgun Defenders and Exploit Reload Cycles
Shotgun-wielding survivors inflict heavy spread damage capable of wiping out clustered walkers in a single shot. Avoid straight frontal charges down narrow hallways whenever possible. Instead, look for overhead openings, broken ceilings, or blind corners created by your Bomber breaches to drop zombies directly behind their firing line.
If a frontal approach is your only path forward, bypass their weapon using reload timing:
- Send a single sacrificial walker ahead to absorb the shotgun's first blast.
- As soon as the survivor fires and enters the reload pause, apply Speed or Jump mutations to the following wave to close the distance.
- Once infected reach melee range, the defender is locked in close combat and cannot fire. Your swarm can then safely overwhelm them without taking additional ranged damage.
Clear the Final Interior Bunkers
The final segment clusters the remaining armed survivors into tight subterranean bunkers. Forcing your entire horde through the main doorway exposes them to overlapping defensive fire.
Check the perimeter for weak subfloors or overhead vents before committing your reserves. Blast open these alternate access points with a solitary Bomber, then send high-mobility runners through both entries at once. Keep an Overlord posted at the bunker exits until all interior targets are infected to prevent stragglers from escaping your perimeter.
