To control engagements and survive early encounters in Absolum, rely on active spatial management rather than continuous attack combos. Break enemy lines of sight using platform elevation, reset attack recovery frames with dash-cancels, and clear ranged targets before taking on frontline melee groups.

Managing Elevation and Environmental Hazards

Vertical terrain offers major defensive and tactical benefits during battle:

• Manipulate pathfinding: Moving between upper and lower platform levels forces ground enemies to clump together while following you. Once they gather below, drop down with aerial strikes or wide area-of-effect attacks.
• Kite for cooldowns: If stamina or ability cooldowns are low, jump across platforms to create space and recover safely without taking damage.
• Bait traps: Place hazards like spikes, pits, or trap triggers between your hero and high-health elites. Forced pathfinding around or through these hazards interrupts enemy pushes and leaves targets exposed.

Reading Telegraphs and Using Dash-Cancels

Enemy attacks feature distinct visual wind-up cues. Watching for these indicators lets you avoid incoming strikes while keeping up offensive momentum.

1. Watch for animation tells: Look for a target to shift stance, glow, or freeze momentarily right before initiating a charge or swing.
2. Interrupt attack strings: If an enemy starts an attack animation while you are mid-combo, jump or dash immediately. Do not attempt to complete a slow, heavy hit to interrupt them.
3. Cancel recovery frames: Execute a dash after two or three hits to clip your attack recovery animation. Dash-canceling prevents your hero from becoming locked in place, allowing you to reposition before nearby enemies react.

Target Priority and Crowd Control
