To play Yena effectively in Arena of Valor, apply five passive marks in Dual-Blade form to silence and slow your target, then immediately switch to Heavy-Blade form to chain uninterrupted crowd control and burst damage. Yena relies on stance dancing to rotate between skirmishing mobility and damage-reducing brawler attacks.

Dual-Stance Mechanics and Passive Marks

Yena uses two distinct forms linked by her ultimate ability, which unlocks at level 4.

  • Dual-Blade Form: Yena gains bonus movement speed. Her basic attacks and abilities apply marks to enemy targets. Accumulating five marks consumes them to deal burst physical damage, slow the target, and silence them. Switching back to this form grants increased attack speed.
  • Heavy-Blade Form: Casting abilities in this form grants crowd control immunity and high damage reduction. Switching into this form grants a brief physical attack buff. Her abilities trade mobility for continuous knockbacks and high-damage charged strikes.

Always rotate between lanes in Dual-Blade form to take advantage of the passive movement speed boost.

Essential Form-Switching Combo

Execute this core sequence to trigger the silence mark and lock down enemies before they can retaliate:

  1. Cast Dual-Blade Ability 2: Throw the spinning blades at your target to apply an initial mark and slow their movement.
  2. Engage with Dual-Blade Ability 1: Dash through the target to inflict another mark and unlock the second dash charge.
  3. Trigger the Silence: Use an empowered normal attack, then immediately recast Ability 1 through the target. This reaches five stacks, activating the burst damage, slow, and silence.
  4. Switch Stances with Ultimate: Press your ultimate immediately while the target is silenced to equip the heavy blade and gain bonus attack damage.
  5. Lock Down with Heavy Ability 2: Channel the continuous push combo while the target remains silenced, preventing them from using dashes, Flicker, or defensive abilities.
  6. Execute with Heavy Ability 1: Charge your cleave strike. If the target attempts to flee after the knockback sequence, reposition or extend the ability's hitbox by casting Flicker during the charge.

Slayer Lane Trading and Laning Phase

Yena is vulnerable before unlocking her ultimate at level 4 because she cannot access her heavy blade or crowd control immunity.

  • Levels 1–3: Play conservatively against aggressive early-game brawlers. Use Dual-Blade Ability 2 to clear minions safely from distance. Only take trades if you can land both dashes of Ability 1 and retreat without taking prolonged return damage.
  • Level 4 and Beyond: Use Heavy-Blade Ability 1 or Ability 2 to clear minion waves rapidly while ignoring enemy disruption with crowd control immunity.
  • Rotations: Clear the lane priority quickly, switch to Dual-Blade form for the movement speed buff, and establish vision in the river bush to intercept enemy mid laners or cut off retreating opponents.

Yena requires a bruiser build that balances armor penetration, cooldown reduction, and defensive stats to survive dives against enemy backlines.

  • 10 Onslaught: Flat physical attack and armor penetration.
  • 10 Guerrilla: Movement speed and attack speed for smoother dual-blade mark application.
  • 10 Skewer: Additional physical attack and physical armor penetration.

Teamfight Flanking Execution

Do not initiate teamfights from the front. Frontal charges leave Yena open to ranged poke before she can reach a target.

Wait for enemy tanks to expend their primary crowd control tools on your frontline. Flank through unwarded jungle paths to approach the enemy mage or marksman from behind or the side. Use Dual-Blade Ability 1 to bypass the frontline, apply your five-mark silence, and switch to Heavy-Blade form. Use Heavy Ability 2 to push the carry away from their support and into your team, then absorb incoming damage with Heavy Ability 1 while charging the lethal cleave.
