To clear Level 487 in Block Out, slide outer boundary pieces into flank pockets before shifting the central cluster. Prematurely moving pieces in the center creates irreversible traffic jams around high-traffic junctions. Shifting peripheral tiles first clears lateral sliding lanes, allowing you to slide long anchor blocks backward and open paths to the exit doors.

Level 487 Clearance Sequence

Level 487 requires a four-phase clearing sequence. Shifting pieces out of order risks trapping trailing blocks behind closed gates.

Move PhaseTarget Block FocusPrimary Objective
Phase 1: Perimeter ReleaseOuter flank tiles and single-unit obstaclesOpen lateral slide lanes and create boundary pockets.
Phase 2: Keystone UnlockingLong anchor blocks in central corridorsSlide anchor pieces backward into open perimeter space.
Phase 3: Color Exit RoutingUnblocked primary color groupsDirect completed color sets into matching exit doors.
Phase 4: Final ClearanceTrailing pieces and buffer occupantsEmpty temporary holding spots directly into exit gates.

Clearing Perimeter Lanes and Central Anchors

The opening five to ten moves determine whether the board remains manageable. Avoid pushing central tiles right away. Long blocks act as structural pins across the main arterial corridors, preventing cross-lane movement until neighboring single units vacate the area.

  1. Shift flank tiles outward: Move perimeter single units into open boundary pockets to relieve congestion across the main corridors.
  2. Expose secondary colors: Nudge partially blocked pieces toward the perimeter edges so their exit lanes become accessible.
  3. Retract the anchor blocks: Once outer space is open, slide the central anchor blocks backward. Ensure an anchor does not slide into a dead-end pocket that traps a smaller piece behind it.

Buffer Slot Management Rules

Temporary holding slots are strictly for short-term transit. Filling them without an immediate exit plan causes mid-game deadlocks.

  • Require an immediate exit: Only place a block into a buffer slot if that move directly enables another block to exit the board on the next turn.
  • Maintain one open slot: Keep at least one buffer slot completely empty so multi-tile shifting chains do not stall.
  • Empty slots within two moves: When an exit door clears board space, immediately retrieve stored blocks from the buffer rather than moving new pieces in.

Exit Routing Priority

After the central anchor blocks are dislodged, route blocks systematically from the deepest interior sections out toward the perimeter gates.

Target the most restricted color group first. Because its exit paths run through the narrowest corridors, clearing this color group early removes the tightest bottlenecks on the board. Once the restricted color is eliminated, guide the remaining colors through their open straight-line paths to complete the level.
