To execute the Heli Farm Ice strategy in Bloons TD Battles, open with a Banana Farm, stabilize early defense using a microed Heli Pilot, place a 2-3 Ice Shards tower at a central choke point before Round 13, and scale into Apache Dartships supported by Absolute Zero for late-game blimp rounds.

Early-Game Setup and Farm Scaling

The objective during Rounds 1 through 10 is maximizing Banana Farm upgrades while spending the bare minimum on defense.

  1. Deploy Farm and Base Heli: Place your first Banana Farm on Round 1. Once bloons advance toward the exit, place your Heli Pilot. Set targeting to Follow Touch or Pursuit. Upgrading to a 1-0 or 2-1 Heli provides sufficient pierce to clear grouped red and blue bloons.
  2. Upgrade to a 2-0 Plantation: Funnel early surplus cash directly into your Farm to build a 2-0 Banana Plantation as quickly as match pressure permits.
  3. Micro Rounds 4 Through 8: Manually guide your Heli Pilot to engage bloon streams head-on. Relying solely on Pursuit can cause the Heli to trail fast waves, resulting in avoidable leaks.
  4. Upgrade to 3-0 Razor Rotors: When pink and black bloons arrive, upgrade your Heli Pilot to 3-0 Razor Rotors. A single Razor Rotors Heli placed along a straight track or entrance section handles natural bloon waves and light opponent sends without requiring extra towers.

Mid-Game Defense and Rush Counters

A lone Heli Pilot cannot reliably defend against fast regrow rushes. Before Round 13, you must place an Ice Tower at a high-density track intersection and upgrade it to 2-3 Ice Shards. When the Heli pops bloons inside the Ice Shards aura, the popped bloons release ice fragments that shred clustered bloon rushes.

Incoming SendThreat WindowPrimary Defensive Response
Grouped Yellows / PinksRounds 8–103-0 Razor Rotors Heli positioned on straightaways
Grouped LeadsRounds 10–122-0 Ice Tower or Razor Rotors micro; add 0-2 IFR on Heli for Camo Leads
Regrow Rainbows / CeramicsRounds 13–162-3 Ice Shards placed at an intersection with Heli targeting inside its aura
MOABs / BFBsRounds 18–223-2 Heli combined with 2-4 Absolute Zero screen freeze

The most common failure point occurs between Rounds 11 and 13. If you greed too heavily on Farms, an unannounced Camo Pink or Camo Lead rush will bypass your defense. Because Ice Towers cannot detect camo, buy the 0-2 IFR upgrade on your Heli Pilot before these rounds begin whenever the opponent banks cash for an attack.

Late-Game Transition: Apache and Absolute Zero

Once you clear Round 20, shift investments from Banana Farms into heavy offensive damage and screen-wide crowd control:

  • Upgrade to 4-2 Apache Dartship: Sell lower-tier Farms if necessary to immediately fund your first 4-2 Apache Dartship. The Apache supplies the focused single-target damage required to crack open the outer shells of BFBs and ZOMGs.
  • Support with x-4 Absolute Zero: Build an x-4 Ice Tower. Activating the Absolute Zero ability freezes the entire screen and slows all MOAB-class units, granting the Apache Dartship enough travel time to melt blimp layers before they reach the final stretch of the track.
  • Sell and Rebuy for Extended Rounds: In games extending past Round 30, keep a reserve of cash on hand. If multiple ZOMGs threaten your exit, sell and immediately repurchase the Absolute Zero tower to reset the cooldown and chain freezes consecutively.

Track Selection and Positioning

Heli Farm Ice relies on specific map geometry to function:

  • Use on Medium to Long Maps: Avoid selecting this loadout on ultra-short maps. Heli Pilot transit time and targeting lag will cause instant leaks against fast spaced sends on short tracks.
  • Anchor Ice at Choke Points: Always position your Ice Tower at sharp bends or overlapping track lanes rather than near track edges. This ensures the shards from popped bloons hit maximum cluster density.
