To defend against aggressive players in Bloons TD Battles using the Tack Shooter, Mortar Monkey, and Banana Farm loadout, position your initial Tack Shooter on a tight curve, deploy an early Mortar Monkey for decamo before Round 12, and hold unspent cash to buy a 0-4 Blade Maelstrom reactively when mid-game rushes arrive.

Aggressive opponents look for over-farming windows. If you greedily build Banana Farms without adequate popping power, opponents will send fast pink or grouped black bloons to force panic sales.

Early Track Placement and Farm Discipline

Maximizing projectile contact is the core requirement for early defense.

  1. Place the primary Tack Shooter inside a loop: Position the tower directly inside the sharpest bend or intersection near the track entrance. Placing it inside a tight bend allows a single burst to hit bloons up to eight times, whereas straight-line placement loses more than half of its pierce potential.
  2. Upgrade the Tack Shooter: Upgrade this lead unit to a 2-0 Faster Shooting Tack, then advance to a 2-3 Blade Shooter before spaced black and yellow bloons appear. A single 2-3 Blade Shooter handles dense natural waves and standard early bloon sends.
  3. Establish farm pacing: Buy your first Banana Farm within the first two rounds and upgrade it to a 2-0 plantation. Do not purchase a second farm until your Blade Shooter is active; un-upgraded farms leave you vulnerable to fast pink sends.

Mortar Targeting and Camo Mitigation

Because the Tack Shooter cannot hit Camo or Lead bloons naturally, the Mortar Monkey provides required coverage across the map.

  • Placement: Place the Mortar Monkey in a back corner away from track edges to preserve prime track curves for future Tack Shooters and Banana Farms. The Mortar has global range, so footprint location does not impact its reach.
  • Targeting: Aim the reticle slightly upstream from your Tack Shooter, ideally at a bend where bloons bunch together. When fast bloons appear, shift the target reticle further upstream to account for shell travel time.
  • Signal Flare Timing: Upgrade the bottom path to a 0-3 Signal Flare before Round 12. Signal Flare removes the camo property from bloons within its blast radius, allowing your Blade Shooters to engage incoming stealth rushes immediately. Pair it with Burny Stuff to handle Round 12 Camo Leads.

Defending Round 12 and 13 Mid-Game Rushes

Round 13 is the primary attack window for aggressive opponents, who frequently send all-out Regrow Rainbow or Zebra bloon rushes.

To hold this round without overspending:

  • Pre-place an un-upgraded 0-3 Tack Shooter near your primary choke point.
  • Keep enough reserve cash on hand to purchase the 0-4 Blade Maelstrom upgrade the moment a heavy rush appears.
  • Wait until the rush reaches the midpoint of your track before activating the Blade Maelstrom ability. Firing too early allows trailing bloons to bypass the ability duration, while firing properly shreds regrow clusters before they can multiply.

If an opponent sends a smaller bait rush to trigger your cooldown, rely on a 2-3 Shell Shock Mortar and standard Blade Shooters rather than activating Maelstrom. Save the ability for full-commitment rushes.

Handling MOABs and Staggered Ceramics

When opponents transition from bloon rushes to Round 18 MOABs or Round 20 BFBs, upgrade a centrally placed Tack Shooter to a 4-2 Ring of Fire and set your Mortar to 2-3 Shell Shock.

The Ring of Fire provides consistent radial damage to grind down the exterior blimp layer. Once the MOAB shell breaks, immediately trigger Blade Maelstrom to vaporize the four internal Ceramic bloons before they can leak past your choke point. For Round 20 BFBs, combine a Tower Boost with repeated Shell Shock stuns to keep ceramic children immobilized within the Ring of Fire's range.

Next Step: Evaluating the Counter-Attack

Once you absorb a major rush without selling your defense, assess your opponent's state immediately:

  • If they sold farms or defense to fund the rush: Send an immediate counter-rush with Fast-Cooldown MOABs or layered Regrow Rainbows. Depleted opponents lack the cash reserves to buy defensive upgrades or boosts.
  • If they retained baseline defense: Do not waste funds on a rushed attack. Instead, use your intact economy to upgrade Banana Farms to 3-0 or 3-2, widening your financial advantage for later rounds.
