To prevent attack fails during Clan War Leagues (CWL) in Clash of Clans, design your attack to secure a guaranteed two-star baseline before attempting a three-star clear. Because CWL grants only one attack per member each day without cleanup retries, a one-star or zero-star fail severely hurts clan standing. Protect your star floor by splitting your plan into two distinct goals: eliminating the enemy Town Hall with specialized tools and systematically gathering 50% destruction on the perimeter.
Choose the Right Siege Machine for the Town Hall
Never rely on a main army push to reach an off-center or heavily trapped Town Hall by chance. Match your Siege Machine directly to the layout's defensive coverage to remove the Town Hall reliably.
| Siege Machine | Best Base Layout Target | Primary Failure Point |
|---|---|---|
| Battle Blimp | Centered or isolated Town Halls heavily shielded by core defenses | Air Sweepers, Tornado Traps, or early popping over empty compartments |
| Flame Flinger | Exposed or corner Town Halls standing outside the range of Mortars and X-Bows | Hidden Teslas, Skeleton Traps, and Mortar aggro |
| Log Launcher | Corridors with stacked defensive walls opening a straight path into the core | High incoming single-target damage breaking the machine early |
| Siege Barracks | Offset Town Halls where heroes can clear an open path directly into the compartment | Inability to cross walls without Jump Spells or Root Riders |
When deploying a Battle Blimp loaded with Sneaky Goblins or Yeti pairs, avoid pathing into directional Air Sweepers. If the Town Hall sits directly behind active Sweepers, enter from an unprotected flank or protect the Blimp along its route using a tanking Lava Hound or the Grand Warden's Eternal Tome.
Funnel the Perimeter to Guarantee 50% Destruction
Core defenses such as the Monolith, Multi-Archer Towers, and Ricochet Cannons can wipe out a central push quickly. If the perimeter is ignored, your attack risks stalling between 45% and 48%. Carve out outer structures early to secure percentage and direct your main force inward:
- Baby Dragons for structural anchors: Place single Baby Dragons on isolated building clusters outside Air Defense range to capitalize on their enraged single-unit damage boost.
- Sneaky Goblins for outer resource structures: Assign two to three Sneaky Goblins per exposed collector to strip hitpoints and create clear walking paths for the Barbarian King and Archer Queen.
- Flank containment: Funnel both corners of your entry point before sending in your primary kill squad. A concentrated central push avoids peeling outward toward low-value perimeter buildings where heroes can be picked off without trading for core targets.
Hold Spells for High-Threat Defensive Counters
Premature spell usage early in an attack often causes late pushes to stall out in heavy defensive compartments. CWL layouts routinely place Spell Towers and multi-target defenses near the core to bait out your support early.
- Freeze Spells: Reserve these to reset high-damage targets rather than buffering passive damage. Freeze Single-Target Inferno Towers when their beam charges to full thickness, or freeze a Monolith that locks onto your Barbarian King.
- Poison Spells: Drop a Poison Spell ahead of defensive Clan Castle units like Ice Golems and Super Minions, or directly onto active Poison Tower zones, to blunt incoming attack speed and protect your heroes from heavy stat debuffs.
- Overgrowth Spells: Use Overgrowth to temporarily isolate surrounding base sections rather than freezing your immediate combat target. Partitioning off an Eagle Artillery or an adjacent Scattershot cluster prevents crossfire damage while your army focuses on the Town Hall compartment.
Time Hero Equipment and the Grand Warden Ability
The Grand Warden's Eternal Tome is your primary safeguard against burst damage spikes. Do not pop this ability for minor splash damage along the edges of the base.
Activate the Eternal Tome when entering high-threat compartments, particularly as your army triggers the Town Hall's Giga Inferno detonation or encounters merged defenses. Pairing Eternal Tome with the Healing Tome brings your remaining units out of the invulnerability phase with full health, allowing your surviving force to safely transition from a secure two-star foundation into a three-star finish.
