To execute the Root Rider and Druid ground attack in Clash of Clans, set a wide funnel with your heroes and Siege Barracks, then push your main army through the center while using Overgrowth Spells to block side compartments. Root Riders automatically smash through walls, while Druids heal the frontline before transforming into melee bears once their healing expires or they fall in combat.

Army Composition and Spell Loadout

This army relies on Root Riders to break open the base layout and Druids to keep them alive against high-damage defenses. The Apprentice Warden provides an additional durability boost by stacking its Life Aura with the Grand Warden.

Unit / SpellRecommended AmountTactical Purpose
Root Rider6–7Destroys walls, absorbs defense aggro, and pushes into base compartments
Druid5–6Heals the frontline from range and transforms into a bear to fight in the core
Apprentice Warden1Stacks additional hit points onto the main pack with its Life Aura
Overgrowth Spell2Disables high-threat defensive pockets to narrow main troop pathing
Rage Spell2Powers up Root Riders and Druid bears through dense defensive cores
Freeze Spell2–3Temporarily disables single-target Infernos, Scattershots, or the Town Hall
Poison Spell1Neutralizes defending Clan Castle troops and enemy heroes
Siege Barracks1 (Clan Castle)Clears an entire flank using a P.E.K.K.A, Wizards, and backend Hog Riders

Keep a few utility troops, such as two Headhunters and several Minions or Archers, in reserve to eliminate defending heroes and clean up remaining perimeter buildings.

Step 1: Establish the Flanks

Ground pushes fail if the main group spreads across the perimeter rather than driving into the core. You must establish both edges of the funnel before committing your Root Riders.

  1. Drop the Siege Barracks on one corner. The P.E.K.K.A and initial wave of Wizards will work down the edge, clearing outer trash buildings and perimeter defenses without requiring spell support.
  2. Deploy the Barbarian King and Archer Queen on the adjacent corner. Equip the King with equipment like the Giant Gauntlet and Spiky Ball to help him punch into outer compartments alone.
  3. Wait for both flanks to clear. Do not deploy your center army until a distinct central funnel is open between the two cleared sides.

Step 2: Main Push and Overgrowth Routing

Once the path is set, deploy your Root Riders in a line along the entry gap, followed closely by the Druids, Grand Warden, and Apprentice Warden.

  • Cast the first Overgrowth Spell early: Target a dense defensive pocket next to your entry line—such as a compartment holding an Eagle Artillery, Monolith, or Ricochet Cannon. Because Root Riders target defenses, freezing that pocket makes them ignore it and run directly toward the base core.
  • Cast the second Overgrowth Spell deeper into the base: Target a secondary pocket or the Town Hall area to delay high-burst incoming fire until your main army clears adjacent defenses.
  • Clear the frozen pockets last: Once the Overgrowth effect expires, your surviving troops will turn back and clear the isolated defenses from the inside out.

Step 3: Warden Ability and Bear Transition

Timing the Grand Warden's Eternal Tome determines whether your army survives the core.

Activate the Eternal Tome when your Root Riders encounter maximum incoming burst damage, typically when engaging defending Clan Castle troops, merged defenses, or the Town Hall's detonation phase. Cast a Rage Spell in the same area to accelerate damage output.

As defenses focus fire on the core, Druids will reach the end of their healing phase or take lethal damage. Each Druid then morphs into a high-health bear. These bears act as a second frontline push, soaking up remaining defensive fire and clearing surviving structures alongside your remaining heroes.

Execution Checks and Cleanup

  • Stagger Druid placement: Avoid dropping all Druids on a single tile. Spread them slightly behind the Root Rider line so Scattershot splash, Giant Bombs, or Electro Titan auras cannot wipe them out at once.
  • Hold Headhunters for defending heroes: Do not deploy Headhunters at the start of the attack where stray perimeter defenses can pick them off. Send them directly behind the Root Riders once enemy heroes engage your frontline, preferably while the Grand Warden's invulnerability is active.
  • Deploy cleanup troops early: Once the central defenses collapse, place your reserved Minions or Archers on exposed outer resource collectors and corner huts to avoid running out of time.
