To win with Hyperbait in Clash Royale, pressure your opponent with continuous, low-cost swarms to exhaust their small defensive spells, then immediately deploy your Goblin Barrel while their counters are out of rotation. Unlike traditional Log Bait decks that rely on heavy direct-damage spells like Rocket to break stalemates, Hyperbait depends on constant offensive tempo across single and double elixir to prevent opponents from amassing heavy beatdown pushes.

How to Force and Punish Small Spell Cycles

Hyperbait relies on tracking the opponent’s primary light spell, such as The Log, Barbarian Barrel, Zap, or Arrows. Most competitive decks run only one dedicated low-cost spell alongside an optional heavy spell like Fireball or Lightning. Once an opponent plays their small spell, they must cycle through four other cards before they can deploy it again. This gap gives you an open window to deal uncontested damage.

Sacrifice cheap bridge units to force that counter, then launch your primary threat:

Goblin Gang (Defensive)Zap or The LogSkeleton Barrel or Goblin BarrelLaunch an instant low-elixir counter-push.

If an opponent refuses to use their small spell and drops a mini-tank like Knight or Valkyrie to answer a bridge Princess, do not throw your Goblin Barrel. Instead, let their unit cross into your territory, shred it with defensive swarms, and wait until their light spell is forced out before committing your barrel.

Defensive Positioning for Swarm Troops

Because Hyperbait lacks beefy tanks to absorb hits, defensive placement requires strict spacing to prevent splash units like Bowler, Baby Dragon, or Golden Knight from wiping out multiple units at once.

  • Center Pulls: Deploy Goblin Gang in the center of your arena, roughly 3 to 4 tiles from the river and 2 tiles into the opposite lane. This pulls incoming single-target melee threats into range of both Crown Towers.
  • Direct Path Blocking: When facing building-targeters like Hog Rider or Ram Rider, place swarms directly in their travel path to serve as a physical barrier. If using a defensive building like Cannon or Tesla, place it reactively in the standard 4-3 tile placement from the river to redirect the push.
  • Protected Ranged Support: Place Dart Goblin deep in the back corner behind your Princess Tower. Keeping him away from the center ensures he deals rapid ranged damage without getting caught in prediction spells aimed at your central defense.

Splitting Lanes to Divide Opponent Resources

Committing all your elixir into a single lane against splash damage or heavy spells creates easy positive elixir trades for your rival. Split pushing prevents opponents from covering your entire offense with a single spell.

To split lanes, deploy Goblin Gang directly behind your King Tower. This naturally sends two spear goblins down one lane and three stab goblins down the other. Once your opponent spends elixir answering the larger group, drop a Dart Goblin or Goblin Barrel into the opposite lane. Because small spells cannot cover both sides of the arena simultaneously, your opponent must forfeit tower health on one side or expend inefficient extra elixir to defend both.

Adjusting for Double-Spell and Beatdown Decks

The two hardest matchups for Hyperbait are double small-spell decks (such as The Log paired with Arrows or Zap) and heavy beatdown archetypes like Golem, Lava Hound, or Electro Giant.

Double Small Spells

Baiting one spell leaves a secondary counter available to eliminate your standard Goblin Barrel. To overcome dual spells:

  1. Transition away from burst swarm pushes toward steady micro-chip damage.
  2. Place Princess safely behind your King Tower so she chips the arena from long range over multiple waves.
  3. Vary your Goblin Barrel landing spots, shifting between the back-corner anti-Log placement and off-center side tiles to throw off spell timings.

Heavy Beatdown

Never allow a beatdown player to build an uncontested push. The second your opponent drops an expensive tank behind their King Tower, immediately drop a high-threat punishment push in the opposite lane. This forces them to spend supporting elixir defensively, leaving their tank isolated and easy to dismantle on your side of the board.
