To win with the Royal Recruits and Royal Hogs deck in Clash Royale, deploy Royal Recruits behind your King Tower to establish an automatic three-and-three split across both lanes. Once your opponent expends elixir or defensive spells on one side, immediately punish the opposite lane with Royal Hogs. This bait archetype forces opponents into awkward defensive trades because they cannot answer multi-lane pressure and spell-vulnerable targets simultaneously.

Deck List and Card Roles

This archetype relies on Fireball bait synergy, using multiple cards that demand the same medium-to-heavy damage spells.

  • Royal Recruits (or Evolution): Primary seven-elixir tank and lane-splitting anchor that bypasses precise tile placement by covering the full width of the arena.
  • Royal Hogs: Main win condition used to punish depleted lanes or bypass committed ground defenses.
  • Flying Machine: Long-range flying sniper that baits Fireball or Poison while chipping defenders from across the river.
  • Zappies: Defensive stun support that resets charging attackers and provides additional spell bait.
  • Goblin Cage: Central defensive building that pulls building-targeting units and spawns the melee Brawler upon destruction.
  • Barbarian Barrel: Two-elixir ground clear for swarms, Barrels, and low-health ranged support.
  • Arrows: Wide-area spell response for swarms such as Minion Horde or Goblin Gang.

Match Pacing from Single to Double Elixir

Patience determines your win rate in early play, while aggressive dual-lane pressure takes over once elixir generation accelerates.

Single Elixir: Defensive Splitting

Do not drop unsupported Royal Hogs at the bridge during the opening minute. Playing naked Hogs early risks an immediate counter-attack that leaves you starved of elixir. Instead, wait until you reach full elixir and start Royal Recruits behind your King Tower.

Place Goblin Cage in the center of the arena to pull incoming tanks and win conditions into range of both Princess Towers. As the Recruits absorb damage on defense, back them up with Zappies to neutralize charging troops like Prince or Inferno Dragon. Use Barbarian Barrel and Arrows reactively to protect your towers without overspending.

Double Elixir: Dual-Lane Overwhelm

Once double elixir begins, cycle Royal Recruits from the back whenever your card rotation allows. Watch where your opponent commits their primary ground defense. If they spend heavy elixir on one lane, send Royal Hogs down the opposite lane.

Unit DeploymentArena PlacementTactical Purpose
Royal RecruitsBehind King TowerCreates an even 3-3 push across both bridges
Royal HogsRiver at opposite bridgePunishes heavy defenders placed against Recruits
Flying MachineOuter arena edgeSnipes troops safely outside splash and spell radius
ZappiesArena center / behind RecruitsStuns tanks and forces spell commitments

Keep Flying Machine wide near the arena boundaries rather than clumping it behind Recruits. This positioning prevents opponents from obtaining combined spell value while your sniper chips away at defensive buildings and troops.

Playing Around Evolved Royal Recruits

When Evolved Royal Recruits are available in your cycle, play them from the back to build an offensive wave. Unlike standard Recruits, Evolved Recruits gain an aggressive charge and a movement speed burst the moment their wooden shields break.

Time your Royal Hogs to reach the bridge just as opposing ground troops or towers strip the shields off your Evolved Recruits. The resulting charge rips through common defensive blockers like Knight, Valkyrie, and swarms. If your opponent exhausts their elixir stopping the push in one lane, the charging Recruits in the opposite lane will deal severe damage to the unguarded crown tower.

Countering Splash and Beatdown Archetypes

Different opposing archetypes require adjustments to your troop spacing and aggression:

  • Heavy Splash (Mega Knight, Bowler, Wizard): Avoid grouping ranged units behind your frontline. Space Flying Machine and Zappies at least four tiles away from incoming splashers. When facing Mega Knight, let the Recruits naturally surround him on your side of the river so both Princess Towers can assist.
  • Beatdown (Golem, Lava Hound): Never commit seven elixir to Royal Recruits in the back if an opponent sits on full elixir. If the opponent starts a slow tank behind their King Tower, immediately drop Royal Hogs in the opposite lane. This forces them to spend defensive elixir, leaving their main tank unsupported when it crosses the river into your Goblin Cage.
