To upgrade your dwarf's loadout between stages in Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor, mine Gold and Nitra using hit-and-move movements while keeping an open path away from enemy swarms. Balancing resource mining against wave survival gives you the credits needed to reroll the shop for high-tier upgrades without taking lethal damage.

Resource Roles: Gold vs. Nitra

Gold and Nitra serve distinct roles in your run's economy:

• Gold: Acts as your main currency for between-stage shop purchases. Amassing Gold allows you to buy stat increases and pay for shop rerolls to find Epic or Legendary weapon upgrades later in the run.
• Nitra: Functions as a tactical currency used for refreshing shop inventories or securing specialized build-enabling items before tough encounters.

Skipping resource veins during early stages leaves your dwarf underfunded during mid-stage difficulty spikes, making it harder to roll for high-rarity gear.

Mining Safely During Swarms

Stopping completely to mine a resource vein exposes you to swarm damage. Use these tactics to stay mobile while extracting minerals:

1. Use Hit-and-Move Mining: Strike a vein once or twice, step back to loop around incoming enemies, and return to finish the vein as the swarm clears.
2. Clear Terrain with Weapons: Allow your auto-firing weapons to punch through bugs and soft terrain before committing your pickaxe to dense mineral clusters.
3. Prioritize Health Over Currency: Never trade a significant portion of your health bar to finish a single Gold vein. The repair cost or risk of death far outweighs a few extra credits.

If obstructive or fast-moving enemies crowd your mining spot, shift focus to area-of-effect crowd control. Clear the immediate cluster before resuming extraction, or retreat if the swarm threatens to pin you against a cave wall.

When to Abandon Resources and Extract

When the drop pod countdown starts, resource collection becomes secondary to reaching the exit zone safely.

• Check Distance and Obstacles: Evaluate the path between your position and the drop pod. If remaining Gold veins sit behind a dense horde or far from the pod, leave them behind.
• Mine Only Pathside Veins: Gather only the minerals directly along your retreat path to the drop pod.
• Secure the Objective First: Surviving the stage preserves your accumulated resources. Dying for a final vein forfeits the entire run.
