To optimize your controls in the Diablo Immortal PC client, open the in-game Settings menu, select the Controller and Keybinds tab, and reassign your core abilities away from the default number keys. Rebinding directional movement, combat skills, and utility interactions prevents input conflicts, eliminates delays caused by stretching across the keyboard, and stops accidental clicks during combat.
Accessing the Keybind Menu
Keybind customization is handled directly inside the game client rather than through the Battle.net launcher:
- Log into your character and enter Sanctuary.
- Press Escape or click the gear icon in the top-right corner to open the main menu.
- Select Settings, then navigate to the Controller and Keybinds tab.
The PC client accepts independent assignments for keyboard and mouse entries. Any change you save takes effect immediately without requiring a client restart, allowing you to test layouts directly in Westmarch or an Elder Rift.
Choosing a Movement Method
Diablo Immortal supports two control styles for character navigation: classic mouse click-to-move and direct WASD keyboard movement.
| Movement Method | Primary Advantage | Main Trade-Off | Recommended Playstyle |
|---|---|---|---|
| WASD Keyboard | Frees your mouse cursor strictly for aiming and firing | Keeps three to four left-hand fingers committed to navigation | Ranged classes (Demon Hunter, Wizard) |
| Mouse Click-to-Move | Keeps your left hand free for skill rotations | Risk of attacking enemies when trying to move | Melee classes (Barbarian, Crusader) |
If you use WASD, keep your left hand anchored over W, A, S, and D so you can strafe away from enemy telegraphs while holding your aim on target.
If you prefer mouse movement, bind Force Move to an easy-to-reach input such as the Spacebar or a thumb mouse button. Using Force Move prevents your character from halting to swing at a monster when you are trying to reposition out of an area-of-effect zone.
Remapping Skills and Mobility
The default layout maps your four primary active skills across keys 1, 2, 3, and 4. This placement forces your left hand to reach away from standard movement positions.
- Primary Combat Skills: Shift your most frequently cast abilities to Q, E, and R. This keeps offensive inputs adjacent to WASD so your index and ring fingers can trigger attacks without lifting off your movement keys.
- Mobility Skills: Map defensive and movement abilities (such as Teleport, Leap, or Flying Kick) to Spacebar or Mouse Button 4. Putting mobility on a thumb or mouse button prevents your escape tools from competing with offensive keypresses.
- Targeted Spells: If your mouse has side buttons, bind ground-targeted spells or channeled skills to Mouse Button 4 and Mouse Button 5. Offloading aim-heavy skills to your mouse hand lets your keyboard hand focus solely on positioning.
Rebinding Potions and Interaction
Moving your offensive skills to letters causes immediate overlap with default utility functions, requiring two important adjustments:
- Health Potion: The default setup assigns the health flask to Q. If you assign an attack skill to Q, move your Health Potion to an easily reached panic button such as 1, F, or middle-click (Mouse Button 3).
- Interact Command: By default, primary clicks can interact with objects in the world. Clicking near chests, shrines, or fallen allies in the middle of a fight can accidentally trigger an interaction instead of an attack. Bind Interact strictly to a dedicated key like F or G so left-click remains reserved for combat.
Tuning Reticle Aiming and Spell Cancels
Mouse-aimed skills track the cursor relative to your character's position on screen. If targeted spells snap erratically across large monster packs, open the settings menu to lower your reticle sensitivity for smoother placement.
To avoid wasting cooldowns on missed attacks, verify your Cancel Cast binding. Setting Cancel Cast to Right Mouse Button or Escape allows you to safely abort charged or targeted abilities if an enemy shields or moves out of range before you release the skill. Aborting the cast prevents the skill from going on full cooldown or consuming resources unnecessarily.

I tried this today and it worked better than my old setup.
Can you add more details about strategy in a future update?
The explanation is clear, especially for beginners.
This helped me understand strategy much better.
