To prevent combat failures in Dislyte, plan your skill timing around status effect rules rather than assuming all buffs and debuffs function identically. Several core status effects possess specific combat interactions, damage modifiers, and bypass conditions that dictate how turns unfold.

The Triple Penalty of Miss Rate Up

Miss Rate Up and elemental disadvantage do not merely reduce incoming hit damage. When an attack results in a Miss, three combat penalties occur simultaneously:

  • Damage Reduction: The attack deals roughly 25% less raw damage.
  • Crit Negation: A missed hit cannot land as a critical hit, preventing critical-rate triggers and crit-dependent damage builds.
  • Status Application Failure: Missed attacks cannot apply debuffs or trigger on-hit dispel effects unless an ability explicitly states that it ignores accuracy checks.

Because of this triple penalty, applying Miss Rate Up to primary enemy damage dealers shuts down both their burst potential and their secondary control skills. When running initiation or cleave squads, avoid targeting enemies with elemental advantage or active Miss Rate Up buffs, as a single missed hit can break your entire combo.

How Sleep, Freeze, and Petrification Differ

While Sleep, Freeze, and Petrification all completely deny actions, they carry distinct removal conditions and secondary mechanical interactions.

Status EffectTurn LockoutRemoval ConditionSecondary Mechanics
SleepComplete action lockoutAny direct attack hitDamage-over-time (Poison, Bleed) ticks without waking target
FreezeComplete action lockoutTurn duration expirationSuspends skill cooldown reductions while active
PetrificationComplete action lockoutTurn duration expirationLocks Action Point (AP) gauge; target gains 30% bonus Defense

Sleep is broken by direct attack damage, making non-targeted area-of-effect (AoE) abilities counterproductive while a target is asleep. However, passive damage-over-time effects like Poison and Bleed do not count as direct hits and will tick without removing Sleep.

Freeze prevents an Esper's active cooldowns from ticking down on their turn, extending their skill downtime longer than standard Stuns.

Petrification halts turn actions and locks the target's AP gauge from being manipulated, but it grants the afflicted unit a 30% Defense boost. Avoid committing single-target burst damage into petrified targets until the status expires.

Buff Blocker vs. Immunity Timing

Buff Blocker and Immunity prevent future status swings, but neither effect acts retroactively.

  • Buff Blocker: Prevents targets from gaining new positive enhancements. It does not strip existing buffs such as Shield, Immunity, or ATK Up. Gold-rimmed and silver-rimmed unique statuses bypass Buff Blocker entirely. Apply Buff Blocker before enemy supports take their turns.
  • Immunity: Blocks incoming harmful status effects, but it does not cleanse existing debuffs upon application. It also does not protect against Action Point reduction. When tuning turn order, ensure your cleanser acts before your Immunity buffer so preexisting crowd control is removed before applying the shield.

Surviving Lethal Damage: Standoff vs. Invincibility

Standoff and Invincibility protect Espers from lethal burst damage under fundamentally different conditions.

  • Invincibility: Reduces all direct damage to zero. Attackers cannot trigger damage-dependent secondary effects, such as life steal, against an invincible target. However, Invincibility can still be stripped by regular dispel abilities, leaving the Esper vulnerable to subsequent hits within the same attack sequence.
  • Standoff: Caps minimum health at 1 HP rather than blocking incoming damage. Attackers continue to deal full damage, allowing them to heal through Vampirism and inflict on-damage debuffs. Standoff does not protect against indirect damage; a unit remaining at 1 HP will instantly be knocked out by a Poison or Bleed tick at the start of their turn.

Amplifying Damage and Halting Heals with Diseased and Sear

Diseased and Sear control match pacing by disabling enemy recovery and increasing overall burst potential.

  • Diseased: Completely blocks HP restoration from direct heals, life steal, and regeneration buffs. Diseased does not prevent targets from acquiring temporary Shields or modifying their maximum HP pool. Pair Diseased with buff strippers when facing defensive compositions to remove Shields while health recovery remains blocked.
  • Sear: Increases all incoming damage to the afflicted target by a flat 25% at the end of damage calculation. Because Sear multiplies total damage taken rather than reducing armor, pairing Sear with DEF Down amplifies burst damage multiplicatively. Apply Sear right before your primary damage dealer uses their highest-scaling skill.
