To beat Survivor difficulty in Dome Keeper, you must establish an efficient mining route in the first two waves, begin ascending well before combat starts, and spend cobalt exclusively on hull repairs. Survivor mode shortens intermission windows and increases incoming enemy damage, making late returns and defensive build paths fatal.

Early Mining Route and Core Upgrades

Your immediate objective is securing eight iron within the first two rock layers to purchase Drill 1 (four iron) and Carry 1 (four iron) before wave three begins.

To uncover ore without wasting digging cycles:

  1. Dig a single vertical shaft straight down from the center of the dome.
  2. Dig horizontal branch shafts outward every two blocks along the central shaft. This spacing reveals resources in adjacent walls while minimizing the amount of unrewarding dirt you clear.
  3. Consolidate iron into small piles at the central vertical shaft rather than hauling single pieces back to the surface.
  4. Haul only what you need to meet the four-iron costs for your early upgrades.

Drill 1 allows you to penetrate intermediate strata without stalling, while Carry 1 ensures that carrying resources does not slow your return ascent.

Wave Timing and Ascent Windows

Do not wait for the hostile wave meter or combat alarm to sound before heading back up. Carrying cargo reduces your flight speed, and even brief delays allow enemies to attack the defenseless dome.

Depth LevelAscent Buffer Before WaveCargo Protocol
Upper Soft Dirt (Layers 1–4)3–5 secondsHaul gathered ores directly to the dome
Medium Rock (Layers 5–10)6–8 secondsDrop excess weight; carry a maximum of 2 ores
Deep Dense Strata (Layers 11+)10+ secondsDrop all cargo immediately and ascend

If an alarm triggers while you are deep underground, drop all carried items instantly. Dragging three or four pieces of ore severely cuts your flight speed, leaving the dome vulnerable to flying spitters and ground swarms that can deplete a health segment in seconds.

Weapon Upgrades vs. Dome Health

Invest early iron into weapon tracking speed and primary damage rather than dome health or shields.

  • Weapon Speed: A base Laser cannot track quickly enough between ground targets and flying attackers. Improving weapon rotation prevents chip damage from fast ground units while you target flyers.
  • Direct Damage: High offensive output eliminates waves before they reach the dome structure.
  • Dome Health and Shields: Upgrades to maximum dome durability consume resources needed for offensive tech and only delay destruction if damage output remains low. Repair the dome only when health drops to critical thresholds.

Gadgets and Cobalt Preservation

Reserve all cobalt for emergency dome repairs. Mixed waves arriving around waves eight through ten feature armored ground crushers and high-damage flyers that inevitably deal damage.

  • Teleporter or Lift: Alleviates long travel times from deeper layers, preserving mining windows.
  • Stun Laser or Defense Drone: Provides automated crowd control against fast aerial units while you focus manual fire on tough ground enemies.
  • Blast Mining: Speeds up rock excavation, but do not spend cobalt on blast radius upgrades if the dome is below 70 percent health.
  • Relic Chambers: Excavate chambers as soon as you find them. Take passive perks immediately, but only haul heavy portable gadgets up during the start of a fresh wave intermission.

Relic Retrieval and the Final Stand

Never excavate and transport the main relic while a combat cycle is pending. The weight of the relic severely restricts movement, making it nearly impossible to reach the controls in time for an incoming wave.

Wait until an active combat wave is entirely defeated, then haul the relic directly into the dome socket. Before locking the relic in place, spend all remaining iron and water on weapon overcharges, hull repair kits, and final combat upgrades. Once the relic is slotted, Survivor difficulty triggers an aggressive final assault; enter the encounter with full dome health, high weapon tracking, and immediate focus on elite ground crushers.
