To beat high-star whale teams in DRAGON BALL LEGENDS PvP, you must exploit overaggressive habits by baiting out attacks in neutral, conserving your Vanishing Gauge, and maximizing your offensive damage through color advantage and drop combos. Limit break stat buffs give 14-star characters high health pools and defense cuts, but they do not grant immunity to combo loops, frame traps, or lost priority.

Baiting Priority in Neutral

Opponents with maxed-out rosters often lean on raw stats to force interactions, queueing Arts cards early or rushing forward. Because stat deficits mean you will lose direct clashes on chip damage, avoid 50/50 guesses and fish for priority using safe neutral tools:

  • Single Tap Blast Baits: Fire a single tap blast from long range to bait out an immediate Vanishing Step, wait for their sidestep animation to finish, and attack.
  • Mid-Range Strike Cancels: Queue a Strike Arts card from long distance and swipe forward immediately to dash-cancel, checking if the opponent commits to a tackle or blast armor counter.
  • Drift and React: Float laterally at mid-range without attacking. Aggressive players frequently commit to an unsafe Strike Arts card after a couple of seconds of inaction.
  • Quick Dashes into Tap Attacks: Advance using a forward Quick Dash and follow with tap punches to interrupt incoming Blast Arts startup frames without spending an Arts card.

Once an opponent burns their vanish on a bait, they often panic-swipe or switch immediately, opening their backline to clean punishes.

Defensive Rotation and Vanish Conservation

Taking hits from high-star units without defensive gauge can end a match in a single sequence. Protect your defensive options with strict switch discipline.

Preserving Vanish Against Chip Damage

Never burn your Vanishing Gauge on low-threat poke attacks. If an opponent connects with a single tap blast from full range, slide backward or absorb the hit instead of dodging. Save your dodge for full Arts cards, Ultimate Arts, or a Rising Rush.

Rotating Around Cover Change Nullification

Do not immediately switch into your primary defensive cover unit if the opponent currently has active Cover Change Nullification. Track their active timers:

  1. Bring in a neutral or expendable unit to absorb the initial hits while the nullification timer runs down.
  2. Switch to your specialized combo-breaker, ki-reduction, or cover rescue unit the moment nullification drops.
  3. Switch systematically mid-combo to let off-field characters regenerate vanishing gauge passively while sub counts tick down.

Maximizing Combo Damage and Countering Cover Changes

Because lower-star teams deal less baseline damage, you cannot afford to have combos cut short by enemy cover changes. Route damage through your color-advantage units and break defensive predictions.

Vanish DepletionFast bench substitution recoveryExtend reset loops with side-step and charge-step techniques to generate ki.

To bypass special cover changes without active nullification, execute a drop combo: pause briefly between Arts cards to reset the combo counter, hitting the incoming unit as they switch in rather than triggering their cover action. Always prioritize attacking with type advantage. A 6-star character attacking into color advantage deals more practical damage than a 14-star unit fighting at color disadvantage.

Countering Rising Rush

Aggressive players frequently trigger Rising Rush raw at mid-range or immediately after dodging. Track their Dragon Ball collection pacing. Once the opponent reaches seven Dragon Balls, stop throwing raw Arts cards from long range.

Float at mid-range to bait out their Rising Rush, then vanish and punish. Losing a raw rush without securing a knockout leaves an overleveraged team without its main catch-up mechanic. Hold your own Rising Rush to eliminate their main offensive carry or to bypass an endurance unit. In endgame 1v1 situations, maintain neutral spacing, let your gauge recover, and react only to exclamation marks.
