You can obtain free ULTRA rarity fighters in DRAGON BALL LEGENDS without spending Chrono Crystals by clearing their permanent event stages under the Special tab in the Events menu. Unlocking each fighter requires earning 100 character-specific Z Power through event missions, which depend on clearing battles and raising a prerequisite Sparking character to Friendship Rank 3.
Available Free ULTRA Characters and Prerequisites
Three free ULTRA units are permanently accessible through their dedicated event storylines. Each fighter requires raising a designated base Sparking (SP) character to Friendship Rank 3 before you can complete the event missions and claim the initial Z Power.
| ULTRA Character | Event Name | Required Base Unit | Friendship Target |
|---|---|---|---|
| ULTRA Super Saiyan Goku (RED) | The Legendary Super Saiyan Goku | Super Saiyan Goku (RED, SP) | Rank 3 |
| ULTRA Super Saiyan Vegeta (PUR) | The Prince of Saiyans | Scouter Vegeta (PUR, SP) | Rank 3 |
| ULTRA Omega Shenron (RED) | The Ultimate Shadow Dragon | Syn Shenron (YEL, SP) | Rank 3 |
How to Raise Friendship Rank Efficiently
The Friendship Rank requirement is the most common progression bottleneck. You can earn the required Friendship Points through two methods:
- Daily Let’s Fight!! Battles: Navigate to the Upgrade tab and clear Battle 1, Battle 2, and Battle 3 using the designated prerequisite fighter on your active team. This awards large daily Friendship Point payouts.
- Story Mode Grinding: If you want to unlock the character immediately without waiting for daily resets, replay Main Story Part 6, Book 1, Chapter 8. This stage offers the highest continuous Friendship Point yield per energy spent.
How to Farm Z Power and Limit Break Free ULTRAs
Free ULTRA characters cannot use generic Multi-Z Power items. To take them from their base unlock up to 7 stars and eventually 14 stars, you must use three dedicated sources:
- Event Mission Challenges: Complete specific in-battle objectives during the event—such as landing the first attack, using specific Arts cards, or finishing within a time limit—to claim initial Z Power bundles.
- Daily Limited Battles: Each event includes a stage restricted to one clear per day. Clear this battle every day after the server reset to receive a steady allotment of character Z Power.
- Rare Medal Exchange Shop: Once one-time mission rewards are exhausted, purchase additional Z Power directly in the Rare Medal shop. You earn Rare Medals from PvP rating matches, Tournament of Power clears, and mission rewards.
Soul Boosting with Event-Specific Souls
Free ULTRA characters do not use standard elemental Rising Souls. Instead, they require custom souls tailored exclusively to their character name.
- Farm Repeatable Event Stages: Use Energy and Skip Tickets on the character's designated event battles to gather custom Rising Souls and Super Souls. This is more cost-effective than buying souls from exchange shops.
- Exchange Shop Backup: You can buy event souls with Rare Medals if you lack Energy, though saving those medals for Z Power limit breaks is generally more efficient.
- Unlock All Panels: Maximize every soul boost panel to raise their combat class, boost base stats, and unlock the character's second Unique Ability slot.
Where to Use Free ULTRA Characters
Free ULTRA units lack the disruptive kits of summon-exclusive step-up ULTRAs, but they provide reliable value for account progression:
- Leader Slot Support: Each free ULTRA possesses an ULTRA Ability that grants stat buffs based on teammates matching their tag (Saiyan, Frieza Saga (Z), or GT). Placing them in the Leader slot allows these passive damage boosts to apply across the entire team.
- Mid-Tier PvE Content: At high star counts, their elevated base stats make them durable options for clearing Ultra Space-Time Rush floors, Full Power Battles, and Co-Op raids that require specific episode or character tags.
