To defeat Garm at high Trial Levels (such as TL 190+) in Eternium, you must kite the boss along the outer perimeter of the arena to manage acid pools, sidestep his frontal spit attacks at right angles, and deal damage during his brief post-attack recovery pauses. Because damage scales to lethal levels in deep trials, taking a direct hit from Garm's breath or lingering in a poison puddle can end your push instantly.
Preparing the Boss Arena and Trial Timer
A successful boss fight begins before Garm even appears. Due to massive endgame boss health pools, you should aim to enter the encounter with at least three to four minutes remaining on the trial timer.
- Clear high-density mob clusters: Group regular enemies and elites together using area-of-effect skills and crowd control to fill the summon progress bar efficiently.
- Avoid chasing single stragglers: Drag surviving monsters into the next pack rather than wasting high-cooldown abilities on low-value targets.
- Isolate Garm upon spawning: Eliminate any remaining basic minions immediately or pull Garm away from them. Splitting your focus introduces stray projectiles and reduces your single-target damage output against the boss.
Positioning and Managing Poison Hazards
Garm's main hazard is his multi-directional acid projectile spread, which leaves persistent poison pools on the ground. Uncontrolled movement across the center will quickly coat the arena floor, trapping your character.
To preserve usable floor space:
- Stick to the outer edge: Pull Garm toward the perimeter walls as soon as the fight starts, keeping your back facing open terrain along the wall rather than tight corners.
- Overlap poison puddles: When Garm begins casting a ranged breath or ground pool, hesitate briefly near the edge of an existing puddle before stepping clear. This stacks new hazards over spent ground rather than burning clean space.
- Keep distance from corners: Leave at least one character-width of space between your hero and the arena geometry to prevent Garm’s wide hitbox from pinning you against the wall.
- Use controlled micro-steps: Move only as far as necessary to avoid attack hitboxes. Running wide laps around the room wastes time and scatters hazards prematurely.
| Hazard Tactic | Proper Execution | Failure Point |
|---|---|---|
| Perimeter Pathing | Lead Garm along outer wall arcs | Poison zones flood the center, cutting off escape routes |
| Puddle Stacking | Drop new pools partially atop old ones | Clean floor space runs out before the boss dies |
| Wall Spacing | Maintain an escape lane away from corners | Boss body-blocks your hero against walls during a breath attack |
Dodging Acid Spit and Lunges
Garm alternates between physical strikes, targeted lunges, and toxic projectile volleys. Surviving these attacks requires reading his physical wind-up animation:
- Watch the coil animation: When Garm pauses and coils his body forward, he is preparing either a charge or a frontal acid spray. Stop casting immediately.
- Sidestep at 90 degrees: Move perpendicular to Garm's facing direction. Backing straight away increases your risk of getting clipped as the projectile spread widens over distance.
- Save mobility skills for emergencies: Rely on regular movement inputs to dodge standard attack patterns. Reserve dashes, leaps, or invulnerability cooldowns for moments when you are cornered or blocked by ground hazards.
Maximizing Damage Windows
Running constantly will cause the trial timer to run out before Garm falls. You must weave your offensive rotation into the boss's recovery frames.
After finishing a breath attack or heavy swipe, Garm pauses briefly before turning to acquire his next target. Use this recovery window to plant your character, trigger offensive buffs, and unleash high-damage abilities. The moment Garm turns and aligns toward you, resume stutter-stepping—alternating quick basic attacks or brief spells with short movement commands—to sustain damage while keeping yourself positioned safely ahead of his next wind-up.

Nice guide. I am checking the other Eternium articles next.
I wish I had read this before upgrading the wrong thing.
This helped me understand strategy much better.
Good guide for Eternium players. The strategy part was useful.
