To grow quickly in Evony without wasting resources, focus your development on specialized generals, save speedups for events, and max your Academy research before pushing higher Keep levels. Avoid spreading investments across too many heroes or relying on internal farms for late-game resources.
Specialized General Development
Do not split your experience, gold, medals, or skill fragments across every hero in your tavern. Focus your investment on a primary main hero for each primary troop type.
- Check Stats First: Review base stats and inherent skill sets in the General Hall before spending medals or gold.
- Focus Hero Roster: Concentrate on two or three specialty heroes—ideally one for ground, one for mounted, and one for ranged—rather than trying to level every recruited tavern general.
Speedup and Resource Allocation
Using speedups on minor building tasks wastes long-term progression value. Save speedups for high-impact Keep milestones and dedicated growth events.
| Growth Focus | Strategy | Primary Source or Timing |
|---|---|---|
| Speedup Usage | Save for Keep milestones and reward triggers | Speedup Events, King's Path missions |
| Resource Gathering | Prioritize map gathering and rallies | Monster rallies, world map resource tiles |
| Base Upgrades | Keep internal fields supplementary | Internal production (inefficient at high Keep levels) |
Internal resource fields quickly become insufficient for late-game upgrade costs. Shift your active economy toward monster rallies and world map resource tiles while investing in Alliance Research.
Academy Research vs. Keep Rushing
Upgrading your Keep unlocks higher troop tiers, but pushing your Keep level without completing corresponding technology leaves your city vulnerable.
- Max Academy Research: Complete available research projects for your current Academy level before initiating the next Keep upgrade.
- Avoid "Glass Cannon" Progression: High Keep levels paired with weak defense and outdated tech create high-value targets for enemy players.
- Maintain Defensive Readiness: Build up defense generals and research to survive incoming attacks without losing your main army.
Active Alliances and Troop Layering
Playing solo or remaining in an inactive alliance cuts you off from speedup support and essential rally loot chests.
- Join an Active Alliance: Seek out an alliance that regularly hunts monsters and participates in events like Server vs. Server (SvS). Alliance Help reduces construction and research timers passively.
- Master Troop Layering: Never train or march exclusively with your highest troop tier. Include small quantities of lower-tier units ("fillers") across all types in your march composition to absorb initial damage and shield your primary damage dealers.

The explanation is clear, especially for beginners.
I tried this today and it worked better than my old setup.
Nice guide. I am checking the other Evony articles next.
I wish I had read this before upgrading the wrong thing.
