To beat Puzzle Level 1: Last Limbo on Heroic difficulty in Fieldrunners 2 for iPad for iPad, you must place your fixed inventory of Gatling towers to obstruct the shortest routes to the exit, forcing enemy waves along a single-tile slalom that crosses every pre-placed landmine.
Because Heroic difficulty scales enemy health beyond the damage output of unupgraded Gatling towers, environmental landmines must deal the majority of the lethal damage.
Pathing Mechanics and Tower Placement
Enemy units in Fieldrunners 2 for iPad for iPad always calculate and follow the shortest unobstructed path between the spawn point and the exit gate. In Last Limbo, the default path bypasses the map's landmines entirely. You cannot wall off the path completely, as the game requires a continuous route to the exit at all times.
To force runners into the explosive hazards:
- Block the central thoroughfare: Place a Gatling tower in the primary central gap to divert the path upward toward the top perimeter.
- Cap the upper bypass: Position a tower along the upper boundary to narrow the passage to a single tile directly over the first landmine.
- Enforce the downward turn: Place a tower just past the top mine to prevent runners from following the perimeter wall, forcing a sharp southward turn toward the middle section.
- Funnel into the lower minefield: Set your remaining blocking towers along the lower path to build a corridor directly over the bottom cluster of mines.
- Position the cleanup turret: Place your final offensive tower directly adjacent to the end corridor near the exit to finish off any high-health stragglers.
Before pressing play, confirm that the glowing red path preview touches every armed landmine on the map. If the preview line skirts a mine, shift adjacent towers by one tile to tighten the corridor.
Maximizing Splash Detonation Damage
Landmines trigger on contact and inflict heavy radial splash damage within a fixed radius. To prevent a lone scout from detonating a mine while the rest of the squad trails behind safely:
- Use sharp turns to compress waves: Forcing enemies into 90-degree corners causes trailing units to catch up with lead runners.
- Maintain single-tile corridors: Lanes wider than one tile allow runners to spread out horizontally, reducing the number of units caught in each explosion.
- Leverage light Gatling chip damage: Towers placed at corner pivots lightly damage and stagger front runners, allowing trailing units to pack tightly together before triggering a blast.
Troubleshooting Heroic Failures
- Enemies bypass mine triggers: A choke point is two tiles wide instead of one. Nudge the nearest blocking tower one square closer to the terrain obstacle to force a single-tile bottleneck.
- Red invalid maze warning appears: All routes to the exit have been completely obstructed. Remove or shift the most recent tower to ensure a single open lane connects the spawn to the exit portal.
- Armored runners leak through the exit: The cleanup Gatling tower is placed too far back along the route. Move it adjacent to the final turn before the exit gate to maximize firing uptime against surviving runners.

Good guide for Fieldrunners 2 for iPad players. The heroes part was useful.
I tried this today and it worked better than my old setup.
This saved me time in the early game.
I wish I had read this before upgrading the wrong thing.
